One Layer Wednesday #127 (Pinterest Inspiration), CAS-ual Fridays #90 (Black & White Plus 1) … Again

Cheryl is the host at One Layer Wednesday this week and has chosen ‘Pinterest Inspiration’ as the theme.  At CAS-ual Fridays, the theme is ‘Black and White Plus 1’ … my Plus 1 is green this time … and I’m submitting this as my second entry there.

I’m probably one of the very few who don’t have a Pinterest account yet, even though it’s tempting. I’ve heard, however, that after joining, most people a few individuals spend a looooong time there … and I know deep down that would be hazardous to my health, or at least my sleep patterns (such as they are).  So  I took as my inspiration a card by the awesomely talented and skilled Susan at Simplicity (who just happens to be one of the other hosts of OLW) … it’s here.  If there’s anyone in the universe who hasn’t visited Susan’s blog … GO … stop everything and GO NOW … you’ll know why when you’ve been and come back (eventually).  At least I hope you’ll be back!  This is my interpretation …

OLW 127, CFC 90

Susan used a technique called Masterboarding, where a collage sheet is created and cut up to make lots of cards.  As this is a one layer card, I couldn’t exactly do that and still meet the challenge, so instead I masked the card and used the same principle, using leaf stamps from Lawn Fawn.  The first layer was stamped and coloured with Promarkers.  For the second layer, I coloured the stamps with watercolour pens, stamped them over the top of the others and pulled the colour from the outlines with a waterbrush. The sentiment is from Kaisercraft.

I made a discovery about using Promarkers with masking … it doesn’t work … the ink bleeds under the masking tape, even if it’s well stuck down.   I was a tad piqued to find out after the card was almost finished … so I did a bit of rescuing and drew a black line top and bottom … ha, no more bleeding Promarkers!

That’s it for tonight … off to enjoy a short meander around the other entries before bed.  Thanks so much for coming by and for letting me know what you think, I really appreciate it.  Anita 🙂

I’m back – the more I look at it the more I like it – you didn’t mask and the overlapping really gives it depth – I feel like I’m entering a forest and as I move the first layer away, the next one is there. That’s an amazing effect on a one-layer card, my friend!

Another knock-out card. I completely agree with you about Susan. Her work is wonderful. Your card is amazing. Those greens are so warm and summery, and this is a beautiful card! Love it. Bev

LOOOVE these vines all hanging out … all those greens make me super happy! What a great one layer card! On Pinterest, I get it, I get your hesitation, I’m the same way too. Which is why I don’t have a cell phone (I know, crazy!) But I see so many people on it ALL the time, at dinner, shopping, on vacation, and I don’t want to be like that. So here’s how I approach Pinterest and keep it from dominating my time. I only use it as my personal bulletin board. I don’t look at anyone else’s boards, or aimlessly browse pins, or look at pins from my friends. I did that the first couple months (before I had a blog) and when the blog came along I dropped browsing pinterest. Had to. Having said all that, I LOVE it for organizing things that I find that inspire me. Using it this way actually saves me time because I don’t have to bookmark pages like I used to. And it’s so easy to find things for reference.

So, probably much more info than you cared to hear! But wanted to let you know that Pinterest could be a really useful, and manageable tool.

Wow Anita – the depth that you have created is almost like looking through those funky 3D glasses! Gorgeous colors. This really is amazing for a one layer card! No harm throwing out a ‘rescue line’ when needed! Great save!

This is an amazing card. Gorgeous design. I love all the green colours. I don’t have a Pinterest account either. It a matter of time, I am peddling as fast as I can now and can barely keep up.

This is one fantastic card! Totally love the look & I’m pinning it! I actually haven’t really figured Pinterest out, but I just know how to pin cards I want to easily look at again–it hasn’t taken over my life–can’t say the same for cardmaking–LOL!
