One Layer Wednesday 145 (Spice Girls), AnnaBelle Stamps #165 (Colour – Cocoa, Waterfall, Pumpkin)

Photobucket

At One Layer Wednesday this week, Ardyth‘s set us a ‘Spice Girls’ challenge … no not the girl group, but a feminine OLC inspired by a spice, condiment or flavouring.  This theme seemed to fit rather well with AnnaBelle Stamps‘ colour challenge to use Cocoa, Waterfall and Pumpkin … so I combined them …

OLW 145, AS 165

For me, these colours are strong and spicy … and with a little artistic license, they could be saffron, thyme and cinnamon.  I love the colour block look on the AS inspiration picture … although achieving that on a one layer card is pretty challenging at the best of times … without the right colour inks for spongeing, it nigh on impossible.

But I really wanted to do some colour blocking (d’you hear the pitter patter of a little foot stamping?) … and after some pondering and a quick Promarker check, I found some perfect colour matches.  So the background panel was Promarkered, then overstamped with the flower branch (from AS Garden Silhouettes), which was embossed in white.  The sentiment came from the same AS set and was embossed in cocoa/cinnamon.  I wonder what the odds are of having that exact colour embossing powder in a supply that only includes four colours??

I’m off for a happy tour around the blogosphere to see what creative delights I can find.  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always such a joy!  Anita 🙂

Muse #23 (Guest Designer)

I love to play along at Muse Card Club … there’s an outstandingly talented Design Team who consistently come up with the most fantastic cards to inspire and encourage us to play along each week, and put our own ‘stamp’ on their designs.

So, you can imagine how beyond excited I am about my news today … and totally nervous just a smidge apprehensive … because today I’m Guest Designer at Muse … Oh. My. Goodness.  I was so delighted and honoured to be asked … and then soooo just a bit squeaky at the thought of creating a card that would inspire others to play along.   Here’s what I came up with …

Muse GD

I wanted to create something in my usual CAS style, with plenty of scope to make it your own … so … feminine pinks and aqua’s, trendy (who me?) gems and sequins, a bold, heat embossed (Paper Smooches) celebratory sentiment,  and a coloured border under the popped up base to pull it all together.

If you haven’t joined in at Muse before, here’s a little guidance (taken from the blog) …

We’re all at some time or another a Muse for each other. Whether that be inspiring others with our creative work or through our words or actions. As long as our efforts come from the heart it’s a worthwhile pursuit.

  • Use the Muse card as inspiration, explain your interpretation and link back to Muse.
  • Provide supportive comments to at least 3 of your fellow member’s submissions.
  • Vote for 3 of your fellow member’s submissions that you find inspiring.

Other considerations: This challenge is open to anyone. The only thing you need to do to become a member is make a card and submit it to one of our challenges.  If you don’t have a blog feel free to use a Flickr Gallery or other online gallery for your Muse cards. Just copy the URL location of your card in your gallery and add it to the Inlinkz.

There you have it … easy … and such fun!  I do hope you’ll have the chance to play along at Muse this week … and vote for your favorites … I’m so looking forward to seeing where your inspiration takes you!  As ever, thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a delight!  Anita 🙂

CASology #49 (Fish), CAS(E) this Sketch #33, TAWS Be Inspired #31, Less is More #125 (Happy Birthday)

I’ve a fun little card to share today … it’s for four challenges (yes, I know, four!) … CASology, where the theme is ‘Fish’, Jackie’s fabulous sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch, The Alley Way Stamps Be Inspired picture challenge and Jen’s Happy Birthday celebration at Less is More (where Jen’s told us she’d use cats, fish or butterflies on a card for herself) … so here are some fish …

The images and sentiment are all from TAWs … the ocean waves were stamped and then I did a little sponging over the top.  The fish were coloured with Promarkers, trimmed out, jazzed up a bit (because they’re tropical) with a little glitter and popped up on dimensionals.  Lastly, I added the sentiment to wish Jen a Happy Birthday … enjoy it Jen!

I’ll be wandering through blogland a little later, so may see you there … for now I’m off to a barbeque … I’m going to stand next to it to keep warm!!  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

Muse #22 (Marion Vagg), CAS-ual Fridays #106 (Over the Edge), Addicted to CAS #15 (Teenager)

As ever, Marion‘s inspiration card at Muse this week is a stunner (see below) … a fantastic masculine look with wonderful cool blue hues and crisp white.  I’ve combined my take on it with the ‘Over the Edge’ challenge at CAS-ual Fridays,  and with Addicted to CAS, where Vicki has chosen the rather tricky (for me) code word ‘Teenager’.

I focussed on Marion’s simple banner, using blue and white as the colour palette.  These arrows are from one of the sets I won in last month’s TAWS‘ blog hop (Good Point)  … Kim from Joyful Creations With Kim, who’s on the DT there, made these fabulous cards with them, so I’m using them in a similar way (thanks Kim!).

They’re stamped and embossed in white and were originally on a straight panel.  To my eyes, though, the blue was too overwhelming so I did some quick snipping along the top and bottom edges to pick out each arrow … easy peasy as they’re all straight … no dastardly curvy/wavy bits!  The arrows fitted well with the pointed over-the-edge ‘open’ tab … and I added the ‘here’ just cause it looked more balanced that way!  A cool, graphic card for a teenager, with the option to use any sentiment inside … I haven’t chosen one yet.

I’m off to see all the inspirational ideas at each of these challenges so I may see you there.  Thanks so much for coming by, I really appreciate your visits and comments.  Anita 🙂

Less is More #124 (Hexagons), A Blog Named Hero #26 (Tag)

A big thank you to Chrissie and Jen at Less is More for showcasing my dragonfly one layer card today … this is me when I found out  🙂  … so delighted!  I’m joining in again this week, where we’re playing with hexagons … and I’m just about squeezing in under the wire …

ETA:  I’m also linking this card to A Blog Named Hero where the theme is ‘Tag’ … I thought I’d missed it, but it’s still open till next weekend … so there’s plenty of time to play along (can’t often add that to one of my posts!)

The base card was embossed with a Craft Concepts EF, and I used an image and sentiment from Paper Smooches (freebies on the blog, here).  I trimmed out the bee, coloured him with Promarkers, glittered his wings and added Glossy Accents to his eyes (which aren’t quite dry yet … couldn’t wait any longer!).  I popped him up with dimensionals on a hand cut tag, popped the tag up on the hexagons, and used a twist of twine to finish it off.

I’m off to link and check out what the other Limettes have been inspired to create this week.  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a delight!  Anita 🙂

One Layer Wednesday #144 (Red, White, Blue)

Cheryl is the host at One Layer Wednesday this week and as it’s coming up to the 4th July celebrations in the USA, she’s chosen red, white and blue as the theme.  Whilst I haven’t used the traditional patriotic stars and stripes images for my card, I have followed (sort of) the colour scheme  …

OLW 144

I was inspired by a swathe of self seeded red poppies growing in a still wild and untouched part of the ‘garden’ … the weather had been glorious with soft, wide, blue skies and bright sunshine … and these delicate, almost papery flowers were fluttering gently in the breeze.  It merited a photo, but for one reason or another (probably involving stone and mortar) I didn’t get to it … and overnight and all today we had storms and torrential rain … so there’s not a lot left of the poppies, and that lovely blue sky is well hidden under a blanket of grey.  I didn’t bother with a rainy-green-stalks-and-dull-grey-sky photo … not really too … umm … inspiring.

The image is a Craftwork Cards one, stamped repeatedly on a sky blue base and embossed in white.  I coloured the flower heads with a red glaze pen and added the Stampendous sentiment, also embossed in white.  Done … a swathe of stylised poppies.

Moving along … a warm hello and welcome to ‘sedurrant’, who joined the ranks of the Froggers this week … thank you 🙂  Please let me know if you’d like me to add a link to your blog or gallery, if you have one … for now I only have your email.

That’s it for me for tonight … thanks so much for calling in, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

CASology #48 (Yellow), Case This Sketch #32

A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to have my name picked by Monsieur Random Number Generator at the The Alley Way Stamps blog hop, and won the three newly released stamp sets … wow … I mean really, WOW!  I’ve been longing for some TAWS sets for a while so to say I was excited is an understatement … more like EXCITED.  They arrived yesterday afternoon … bet you can’t guess what I did yesterday evening!  So, a big thank you to Ali at TAWS … her designs are fabulous and the stamp quality is top class … plus there’s an amazingly talented DT who provide inspiration and ideas galore.

Today, I used one of the sets to make a card (rather than just randomly playing with the stamps as I did yesterday) … it’s the last day for this week’s ‘Yellow’ challenge at CASology and there’s a super simple sketch by N@ali over at Case this Sketch, so I combined the two …

Yep, I know … you’ve never seen or heard of a yellow toucan before.  Well, he’s a rarity … in fact, he’s rarer than rare … he’s unique.  Thing is, he’s spent so much time in the sun, his plumage has taken on the toucan equivalent of a tan … and being the individualist he is, he rather likes it that way.   Even now, he’s trying to sneak off the edge of the card to take advantage of the glorious sunny afternoon we’re having.  He’s from TAWS’ Tropical Hideaway set, as is the zig-zag (stamped numerous times to make the border), and the sentiment he’s standing on.  Colours come courtesy of Promarkers.

I’m looking forward to a browse around the other entries to see what yellow delights everyone’s been inspired to create.  Thanks so much for coming by … hope you’re having a simply splendid Sunday … Anita 🙂
