Time Out DT #19 (Embossing), Less Is More #199 (Jingle All The Way), Uniko Studio #16 (Christmas Anything Goes), SSS Wednesday (Anything Goes, Simply Create Too #75 (Snow, Snow, Snow)

Happy Thanksgiving!  To all of you celebrating today … may you be blessed with the joy and love of family and friends as you feast!  At Time Out, we’re half way through our latest challenge, where we’re focussing on embossing with an optional twist of sparkle.  I’ve gone with two types of embossing and plenty of sparkle and shine this week …

Time Out 19 DT, LIM 199, SCT 75, Uniko 16The panel started off life as white card stock, embossed at the Lake House with a Stampin’ Up EF (I think … another goodie in the collective stash … don’t know which of the BABES it belongs to).  On the debossed side, I coloured in the snowflake impressions with a silver fine liner, heat embossed the sentiment (SSS and Uniko Studio) in Hero Arts silver EP and then set to with some Distress Inks.  Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean and Chipped Sapphire were sponged over the panel, and I splattered and sprayed Shimmer Spritz over it to lift the colour and add some delicate sparkle … a sort of all over Wink of Stella effect.  To finish, I added a little bling to each snowflake and a few star sequins, and popped the panel up on foam dots on the card base.

There’s already a wonderful gallery filled with embossed and sparkly delights … and there are ideas galore from the DT over at the Time Out blog.  If you haven’t played along yet, why not pop over and see where your imagination might take you … you could win the chance to be a Guest Designer … and if you use the optional twist, you’ll be in with a random chance of winning a stamp set from our sponsor, Avocado Arts!

My card’s heading over to join in with …

Papertrey November Blog Hop Challenge, Less is More #199 (Jingle All The Way), Fusion 20/11 (Sparkly Christmas), Uniko Studio #16 (Christmas Anything Goes)

You may remember I made a whole four cards at the Lake House with the BABES … you’ve seen three … and I’ve been holding onto this last one, waiting for exactly the right moment.  That moment has arrived …

PTI BH 11-2014, LIM 199, Fusion 20-11, Uniko 16These Papertrey Circle Scribbles (cut with Kim‘s dies … thanks, my friend!) put me in mind of a kind of funky modern take on snowballs (or even snowflakes) … especially after they’d been embossed with Ranger Platinum EP to make them all dimensional.  Once I’d arranged them on the card front, they were adhered into place and the overhanging edges were trimmed off.  Then I deliberated (goodness, we deliberated!) about where to put the sentiment.  Some time later, I found this sweet little stamp in the collective stash (sorry, BABES, don’t know whose it was!) and it fitted perfectly into the middle of the medium sized snowball … job done … one snowy, shimmery, silvery, Christmas card!

Make It Monday #189 (Impression Line Watercolouring), AAA Cards #28 (Thanks/Thanksgiving), SSS Wednesday 19/11 (Thanks/Thanksgiving)

I haven’t played along with PTI’s Make It Monday for ages … I’ve wanted and planned to … then suddenly the deadline’s passed.  Tonight, I’m squeezing in with this card …

MIM 189, AAA 28, SSSW 19-11Erin‘s video (here) explains the technique of impression line watercolouring … instead of using an impression plate (IP) to cut a shape/shapes out, it’s used to impress the image/images on the cardstock.  I’m the proud owner of just the one, very recently acquired, PTI IP, and tonight I used it for the first time.  I ran a piece of watercolour card and the IP through my Cuttlebug using the embossing plates, and used Distress Inks and a refilled Wink Of Stella brush to do the ombré colouring, using the impressed lines as my guide.  Once it was dry, I die cut a Studio Calico thanks out of the panel, cut another five out of spare cardstock, and stacked them together.  A piece of printer paper was adhered behind the negative space on the coloured panel, the stacked word was popped into place and I scattered a sequin or three over it.  The finished panel was popped up on foam dots on the card base.  Here’s a close up so you can see the shimmer (which is much more so IRL).

MIM 189, AAA 28, SSSW 19-11 Detail Those of you who know me will understand that I had a serious discussion with myself about whether to post this card … I like crisp lines and tidy edges … and this technique doesn’t fit too well at all with my neat freak tendencies!  The watercolouring’s not supposed to stay inside those lovely straight impressed lines … I know, I tried valiantly!  However, the card’s made, I used a new technique … and sometimes it’s A Good Thing to step outside that neat little box and be a smidge uncomfortable!

Here’s where I’m playing along …

Time Out DT #19 (Embossing), Less Is More #198 (More Than One Tree), Uniko Studio #16 (Christmas Anything Goes), Moxie Fab World – November (Tree-mendous Trees)

There’s another fabulous challenge starting today at Time Out and this fortnight, our theme is … embossing with an optional twist of sparkle!  Here’s my embossed, sparkly card …

Time Out DT 19, LIM 198, MFW NovemberI stamped a green ombré background onto some spare card (as demonstrated here by Laura Bassen), adhered the Memory Box tree outlines onto it (cut whilst at the Lake House … thanks, Ardyth!) and then did some easy trimming out.  The trees were treated to a coat of Wink of Stella, topped with Glossy Accents, and were set aside to dry.  I die cut a window into a white card panel, stamped the Uniko Studio sentiment, embossed the panel using a swiss dots EF, and added a fine strip of glitter paper to each side.  On the card base, I adhered some glitter paper where the window was to go and popped the embossed panel up on foam dots (thanks, Geri!) over the top.  The trees were popped up on foam dots in the aperture and adhered flat where they touched the embossed panel.  I finished by adding a minute star sequin (thanks, Darnell!) to each tree and to the J in the sentiment.

So, where will your creative imagination take you this time around … dry embossing … heat embossing … embossing paste … and will you add the optional sparkle twist or go without?  As usual, our overall winner will be invited to be a Guest Designer for a future challenge and in addition, if you use the twist, you’ll be in with a random chance of winning a stamp set from our sponsor, Avocado Arts!  I do hope you’ll be able to find time to have some fun and play along … all the details, together with a ton of inspiration from our awesome Guest Designer Lesley and the Design Team, are over at Time Out.  See you in the gallery!

I’m also linking up with …

Time Out #18 Reminder (Home Sweet Home), AEI♥U #18 (Holiday), Virginia’s View #9 (All Things Metallic), Make The Day Special – November (Colour Inspiration), Moxie Fab World – November (Tree-mendous Trees), Loll’s Twelve Tags of Christmas

I’m popping in with a quick reminder … there’s still a week to go in the latest Time Out challenge!  We (the Design Team) have plenty of mid challenge inspiration for you over at the Time Out blog, so why not have a meander over there and see how the Home Sweet Home photograph sparks your creativity?  Here’s the wonderful inspiration photo …

and here’s my latest take on it …

Time Out 18 DT Mid Challenge, AEI♥U 18, VV 9, MTDS November, MFW NovemberThis is a little different from the norm for me … it’s either a very slim card or a very long tag (it’s the latter … there’s twine on it)!   I saw the planted pine cones and the tall, slender candle sticks in the picture … and thought graphic Christmas trees!  A snow bank was sponged at the bottom of the kraft scrapling, it was embossed in white and was dabbed over with Espresso ink to emphasise the texture.  I used an SSS stencil for the snow, again white embossed.  A tall triangle (from Avery Elle‘s Bright Days) was stamped three times onto spare card and double embossed, two in silver (Hero Arts) and one in platinum (Ranger).  They were trimmed out, covered with Versamark, embossed again and popped up onto the snow bank with foam dots.  I finished with a Papertrey sentiment, a red gem atop each of the trees and a little twine.

I’m joining in with …

CASology #120 (Sea),The Cutting Edge# 14 (Lisa Addesa), SSS Wednesday 5/11 (Thinking of You)

It’s a fortnight since I arrived home after my week with the BABES at the Lake House … it’s been a busy time since … lots of insurance stuff from the lightning strike in August … plenty to keep me busy on the renovation … catching up in blogland … and jet lag!  With ‘normal’ life going on, you’d think there wouldn’t be much room for anything else.  Ha, so not so … missing you, BABES … and because you were in my thoughts, I made you a collective card …

CASology 120, TCE 14, SSSW 5-11On a white card panel, I stamped six beach huts (one each!) … I know we were by the lake and not the ocean, but I used poetic license!  They were stamped using the rectangle and diamond (masked) from Clearly Besotted Geometric Shapes, with a heart die from SSS used for the windows, and a sentiment from WPlus9 (it comes stacked … I cut it up … be proud, Ardyth!).  Using the roof colours from the huts, I stamped squares from the same CB set onto the base card so they would show through the windows, coated them with Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents, and popped the beach hut panel up on foam squares (courtesy of Geri … thanks, my friend!) on the base card.  Voila!

Some of you may notice that one of the roofs is slightly askew … it’s in need of some repair due to a little storm damage!   Want to see the how sparkly clean those windows are?  Look …

As well as being for each of the BABES, this card is also heading for …

Time Out DT #18 (Home Sweet Home), Just Us Girls #265 (Wreaths), Hero Arts Holiday Challenge (White Out), A2Z Scrapbooking – November (Anything Goes), Simply Create Too #73 (Shop In Your Craft Room)

Today sees the start of the new challenge at Time Out … this fortnight, we have a delicious Home Sweet Home theme, which means there’s another fabulous inspiration photo for you to wrap your creativity around …

How’s that for warm, cosy, Christmassy?  I was inspired by the planted pine cones on the box table … and by the wreath hanging on the ladder in the right corner … and made this …

Time Out 18 DTOn a white card panel, I offset an MFT circle die and drew round it in pencil, then stamped the pine branches from Waltzing Mouse Stamps over it, using two inks to get a little variation in tone … Memento’s Olive Grove and Teal Zeal.  The pine cones were embossed in brown (which has a little shimmer in it that you can just see on the top one), I added some white gel pen to give them dimension and finished the wreath with some red bling berries (which aren’t usually seen on pine trees … although we have one that has them … albeit different from these!)  The simple and lovely sentiment is from Hero Arts.  The eagle eyed among you will have spotted some DP here (courtesy of Darnell, one of my fellow BABES … thanks, my friend!) … I adhered a piece of it to the card base to add contrast, before popping up the panel on foam dots.  DP for the second time in a week … will the sky tumble, d’you think???

What do you think of when you see the inspiration photo?  There’s so much to explore here … why not take some time to have fun with it and play along?  All the details are over at Time Out, along with a whole host of fabulous cards from the talented Design Team and Guest Designer this fortnight, Toni from Frankie Helps Craft.  Look forward to seeing you in the gallery!

My card is also heading over to …
