Twofer Card Challenge #12 – Birds

Hello … bonjour!  Welcome to our first Twofer Card Challenge of 2019!  This month, we have a fabulous prompt that will have ideas popping all over your creative brain … it’s …

… it might even be happening already!  Here are my feathered friends …

My common image here is that happy little waving penguin, from Arctic Pals by Essentials By Ellen, used conventionally on both cards … isn’t he a cutie?  Actually, all the stamps I used are from the same set, designed by Julie Ebersole … I love it!  Here’s a closer look at the first …

Here, my penguin is saying a heap of hello’s to his pal just across the ice.  They were stamped onto a white card panel, coloured with alcohol markers and grounded with a touch of grey pencil. The eyes on both were altered using white and black gel pens so that they look as though they’re glancing at one another … and  I added Glossy Accents (carefully!) to the eyes and the beaks.  The cracked ice background (that’s how I see it!) is from Winnie and Walter (Multifaceted Cutaway) … cut from grey card and adhered flat to the base.  I doodled a dotted frame around the penguin panel … and popped the panel up on craft foam over the ice.

My twofer penguin …

… sending Happy Brrrthday wishes from behind his iceberg.  This little scene was built up on a white card panel using stamping and masking … I added a touch of colour to the penguin’s beak … and some shading and frosting to the icebergs (you can see the shimmer better in the first photo if you go in close).  The finished panel was adhered flat to a card base that had been sponged along the edges to match the icebergs.

Voilà … my two distinctly different designs … for two distinctly different occasions … using the same stamp!

How might you interpret ‘Birds’?  We’d love to see you in our gallery with your two takes on it!  All the details you need are over at the Twofer blog … along with plenty of fine, feathery ideas from the the DT to spark your imagination.  We’re delighted to have two Guest Designers with us this month … a warm welcome to Izzy from Izzyscrap and Sonja from Old Punca.  Do go and have a visit with both Izzy and Sonja … not only will you find their brilliant Twofer cards, you’ll also enjoy a whole heap of wonderful inspiration to meander through … and you can always leave them some love while you’re there!

My happy pals are wandering off to …

Oh goodness, Anita, these are fabulous! I love how you added the detail to their eyes on the first card so they are looking at each other. I also really like the use of the cover die for the cracked ice. So clever! That second card makes me grin and giggle. Adore how he is popping out to say Happy Birthday. Very clever and very fun! Thanks so much for sharing! 🙂

So darn cute, those little guys. Love the sentiments. And using the geometric die cut to hint at icebergs and igloos is brilliant!

These are both fantastic, Anita! That waving penguin is so endearing, it makes me want to wave back! I love the sense of cracked ice from your die cut panel on your first card, and the perfect placement of everything on your birrthday card!

I’ve been eyeing this set for quite some time now. And after seeing how you’ve used them here, I can hear them calling my name even louder! These are two wonderful cards, filled with sweet details like the hand dotting around that panel on your first one, and all the geometric patterns on both cards!! You’ve given me enough smiles to last all day! Those are absolutely fabulous penguins. EH does make some awesome stamps, and you use them in such fun ways. Love these!! Miss you tons, my sweetie pie!! xoxo

You have truly brought your penguin pals to life in these two works of card art, Anita! In the first, I love how you altered and glossified their eyes so they are looking at each other! And in both, the wave action draws the eye and achieves movement! I agree with you about the background looking like broken ice! But my favorite is your second design with that sweetie pie poking out from behind the beautifully constructed and shimmery iceberg to wave hello! Both cards tell a story, which is the ultimate compliment!! LYAMYMA! NKOC! Hugs, Darnell

I’m completely terrified of birds, but your penguins here…no fear whatsoever! I mean, who can resist that little wing-wave! Fabulous faceted ice background on the first; pretty sparkly icebergs on the second! Cuteness galore!
Speaking of cuteness: we welcomed a new puppy – Lily, a miniature schnauzer – into our lives on Dec. 22…and she is an absolute gem! Apologies if my commenting is a bit slow….puppy has alllll my attention! We’re both completely smitten with her *grin*

Oh, those eyes! Your cleverness is a delight to mine, Anita! Just look at all the fun in these two CAS designs. I admire your skill in conveying so much with so little. Lots of personality in those penguins! The die cut certainly does suggest cracked ice. Fantastic!

Bises

Bonjour Anita – long time no commenting! Your penguins are just adorable – I love how you made them ‘look’ at each other by altering their eye. So clever! And the iceberg is just gorgeous. Is that W and W as well?

Sorry I’m just now getting here Anita, I have been having issues with your posts going to another folder and signing in to leave a comment. I didn’t even know I had a wordpress password. lol But hopefully I got the password thing down and should be good to go with that! Now to get your posts to come to the right folder in my email. I am loving your feathered friends Anita! They are just the cutest. Loving the background die you have used, it really does look like cracked ice and to me, icebergs. Your penguins waving are too cute, love all the “hello, hi” sentiments on this one. The scene on the second on is equally as cute. Makes for one cute birthday card. Hugs, Brenda

Today is a bitterly cold day where I live and the icy cold winds are blowing, so these cards just added to the chill factor for me, BUT they’re definitely CUTE and much easier to deal with than the weather outside! I love the ice factor on both cards – even if it does make me shiver a little bit more! LOL Great twofer!
