Twofer Card Challenge #16 – Things With Wheels

Hello … bonjour!  We’re rolling out our May challenge at Twofer today … with a prompt that should get those imaginative cogs turning!  This month we’re playing with …

… here’s the spin my imagination took …

A missing you card for a sweet friend and a colourful happy birthday card, both featuring an image from The Cat’s Pajamas.  Here’s a closer look at each one …

A simple, one layer card with Long Eared Bunny driving away into the distance, having been visiting with a friend.  The road is from Essentials By Ellen, and LEB and his well loaded car are coloured with alcohol markers.  I doodled some puffs of exhaust smoke and added the Simon sentiment … and couldn’t leave him without a little shimmer (Spectrum Noir) on the chrome and shine (Glossy Accents) on those new tyres.  If you look closely, you’ll see a little moistness in his eyes … after all, he’s missing his far away friend already!

My twofer makes unconventional use of this image … I turned the wheels into an abstract, vibrant pattern …

It took rather a while to come up with this design and by the time I had, time was of the essence in getting it finished (deadline looming!).  So I threw caution to the wind, called on my creative guardian angel, pulled out my Memento Dew Drop ink pads and an acrylic block … and started inking and stamping onto a white card panel.  The points on the pads meant I could ink up just the wheel and wing part of the image precisely, doing away with the need to do any masking.  After a quick practice on some copy paper, I just eyeballed it … ink, stamp once, ink, invert the image, match up the wheel, stamp again … repeat in the next colour.  The little blocks created where the wings overlapped one another were filled in with the matching ink.  Isn’t it wonderful when winging it actually works first time … phew!  The main hugs sentiment (Papertrey) was cut into the wheel pattern and into black craft foam, I popped the panel up on craft foam on the card base, glued the two hugs together and added them back into their space.  The additional sentiment is from Simon, white heat embossed on black, trimmed to a strip and popped up on foam tape.  I finished off with a scattering of silver stars and irridescent sequins to add a little birthday magic.

How about rolling along with us with some wheels of your own … we’d love to see your cards in our gallery!  You can find out everything you need to know in the rules and FAQs over at the Twofer blog.  There’s a whole heap of wonderful inspiration to enjoy there too … from our talented Guest Designers, Hilary from Fiddling About and Cornelia from Stempel Spass … and from our fabulous DT.  Do go over for a visit with both Hilary and Cornelia … as well as their Twofer cards, you’ll find a whole load of fabulous cards and inspiration … you won’t want to miss it!

Brilliant! Way to go for just turning the wheels of your crafty instinct! Must have been a rush, I love it when that happens to me, even though, sadly, a rarity. heehee xoxo

Fabulous cards Anita! The teary-eyed bunny is perfect for our challenge but the use of the wheel to create the abstract pattern on your second card – truly inspired!! Thanks for sharing your card with us over at The Paper Players this week!

Wow you really did get creative here. I just couldn’t see how the second card was the same stamp set until I ready the post. Your creativity blooms here.,..what a great idea and it worked so well first time! Adore your card for Ink. Love the softness of the colour you used for the road. And the little card sure is full up ready for an adventure! The glossy accents on the chrome and tyres show how cool he really is and the moist tears, the perfect finishing touch. Fab to see you at Ink

Look at you going all unconventional on us. 😉 Turning the wheels into a birthday card was an inspired design, Anita. So fun and colorful. I do see the tear drop on your bunny friend. I love that you ran him off the edge to make room for the perfect sentiment.

Seriously, you really are a genius. Both of these cards are a pure delight. How does that bunny keep his head up with those huge ears. He does look as though he enjoyed his sojourn at his friends house…so beautifully colored. And that impressive second card…really looks as though your angels were looking out for you. Brilliant way you overlaid those colors. Perfect for the camouflaged sentiment. Awesome twofer.

I know all about those missing-you-feelings in LEB’s heart and the moistness in his eyes at having to leave a get-together with friends. You’ve captured it perfectly, Anita, and sad though it is, it still made me smile with delight at your coloring and strategic glossification!! And your unconventional design blows my mind! You definitely had a designing guardian angel guiding you with this one! It’s clever and executed brilliantly, using nothing but your eyeballs and your genius brain!! ILYAMYMAAWYLC!! Hugs, Darnell

WOW…you nailed this challenge Anita!! That LEB gets me every time and to think of him being sentimental rather than snarky just makes me smile!! And your unconventional card with the wheels is FABULOUS…blows me away that you were able to do that with just eye-balling! You rock my friend!! Hugs. :0)

Both cards are very creative, Anita, especially as I read about the process. Cute little puffs of exhaust smoke you drew for the misty-eyed bunny’s car. Sweet and fun image with the sentiment. Love the clean, but colorful design of your cards. Pure genius between you and your creative guardian angel to make a border with those tires! Who would’ve thought? Absolutely wonderful!
