A New Challenge At Time Out – #123 – Black, White Plus One Colour

Hello … bonjour … and a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving to all my American friends!   We have a theme for you to play along with at Time Out this fortnight … it’s a colour one … black, white and a spot of colour … with the optional twist of making a one layer card.  Here’s where I went with it …

This is an almost one layer card … stamped with an EbyE background in Memento Tuxedo Black … pounced with white to create a sense of lit snowfall … and generously spitzed with Shimmer Spray (which you can’t see!).  The little fox, which is also EbyE, was stamped, trimmed out, popped up on foam tape onto the snowy background … and had his glinting eyes dotted with Enamel Accents and his nose coloured red and coated with Glossy Accents.  He’s related to Rudolph don’cha know … and aspires to emulate him … though I’m not sure what the other reindeers would say if a fox were to head up the pulling team on Christmas Eve.  Guess it’s only Santa knows the answer to that one.  The sentiment was typed on a 1960s typewriter (as you can see it has a dual black/red ribbon!) … between the background stamping stage and the attaching of the Rudolph-emulating little fox.      How will you interpret our Black, White, Plus One Colour theme … and will you use our optional twist?  We’d love to see what you create in our gallery.  This fortnight, we’re sponsored by Happy Little Stampers … there’ll be a random winner of a $20 gift certificate for the store, drawn from those who use the optional twist.  As usual, our overall winner, as voted for by the DT, will be invited to guest design with us in a future challenge.  All the details are over at the Time Out blog … along with heaps of inspiration from our brilliant DT … and from our talented Guest Designer, Joanna from Jo-Jo’s Spot.  Why not pop over and have a visit with Joanna … there’s so much fantastic and varied inspiration on display … you’ll have a splendid time … and you can always say hello while you’re there!

A New Challenge At Time Out – #122 – Home Sweet Home

Hello … bonjour!  Our new challenge at Time Out has just gone live … and you might notice something a little different about it.  We have a wonderful, sparkly, shiny new look!  Do pop over to the Time Out blog and check it out … we love it … and think you’re going to love it too!   We have a Home Sweet Home picture to inspire you this fortnight (it’s a little further down) … here’s my take on it … and here’s our wonderfully festive inspiration …

My attention was taken by the non traditional Christmas colour palette of bright red, grey and white … and the pattern on the bedding … yum!  I stamped and white heat embossed the Simon Kaleidoscope Centre Cut Background onto an Ellen Hutson Oyster Grey card base … then started colouring with coloured pencils.  While the pencils are from a very ordinary generic set, I did have the chance to play with Kara‘s Prismacolors at the Lake House … and get a heap of guidance from the expert herself … so I put all I learned to work here.  You might have noticed that the die cut sentiment (also from Simon)  is adhered over an uncoloured, adhered-over-the-top circle of heat embossed card.  That’s because my colouring skills didn’t extend to the centre cut part of the pattern … that is, I messed up!  I kept the cover up without any colour so that the Glossy Accented sentiment would pop against it … here it is in a little more detail so you can see all that shine …

What is it that gets your imagination going in our photo … the colour combo, the texture, those Christmassy images, that snow white cat … or something else completely?  Whichever way you’re inspired, we’d love to see what you create in our gallery!  Our winner, as chosen by the DT, will receive a $20 gc from our wonderful sponsor, Altenew and will have the chance to guest design with us in a future challenge.  All the details are over at the Time Out blog … along with a heap of gorgeous cards from our fabulous DT and from our talented Guest Designer, Mugdha from Craftomania.  Do pop over for a visit with Mugdha … and enjoy the wonderful selection of delicious cards on display over there!

A New Challenge At Time Out #120 – We Challenge You To Be … Colourful!

Hello … bonjour!  Our fabulous new challenge starts this morning at Time Out … this fortnight … We Challenge You To Be … Colourful!   Here’s where I went with the theme …

Time OutMy ‘Colourful‘ is those cutie patootie, sparkly edged little bobble hats that are keeping this festive row of sweet penguin-ettes warm!   The penguins are from Winnie & Walter … they’re stamped in black and clear heat embossed … and are set along a distress ink sponged ice flow, into which the Winnie & Walter sentiment was stamped/heat embossed.  The colouring was done with Zigs … and I added some frosty shimmer to the furry brim and pompoms with a touch of Stickles.  Want to see the glitteriness a little better …

Where will our challenge take your creative imagination … to colourful images, as mine did … to something bright, bold and graphic … or somewhere else?  Wherever it takes you, we’d love to see what you create!  This time round, we’re sponsored by Winnie & Walter  (thanks, Shay!) … our  winner, as voted for by the DT will receive a $25 GC from the store … and as usual, will be invited to guest design with us in a future challenge.  All the details are over at Time Out, along with plenty of fabulous inspiration from our wonderful DT … why not pop over and enjoy!

A New Challenge At Time Out – #119 – Breast Cancer Awareness/Friendship

Hello … bonjour!  We have a special challenge for you at Time Out this fortnight … our theme this time round is Breast Cancer Awareness and/or Friendship … with the optional twist of making a one layer card.  Here’s where I went with it …

Time OutI chose not to twist this time round.  My scribbly blooms and leaves are from CAS-ual Fridays Peaceful Garden and are stamped directly onto the card base.  I added some doodlie dots with a black pen to add to the whimsical nature of the images.  The sentiment is also from CAS-ual Fridays (Mon Ami) and is white heat embossed onto a black strip.  The strip was adhered flat to the base … and I was done.  Except … I wondered what it would look like if the monochrome was reversed … so made this to find out …White heat embossing onto a black panel … with a black on white sentiment strip.  I’m finding it hard to choose which I prefer … it changes from moment to moment … how about you?

How will you interpret our Breast Cancer Awareness and/or Friendship theme … and will you use our optional twist?  We’d love to see what you create in our gallery.  This fortnight, we’re sponsored by CAS-ual Fridays.  You may know that owner Michele is a breast cancer survivor and a huge champion of Breast Cancer Awareness, not only financially through her company but also through the Calling All Sistahs Blog, Encouragement Squad and Challenge, here.  Do go and check it out if you’re not aware of it … so worth it … and not to be too dramatic about it, it may just save your life.

Our  challenge winner, as voted for by the DT, will receive a $25 GC for the CAS-ual Fridays store … and as usual, will be invited to guest design with us in a future challenge.  All the details are over at Time Out, along with plenty of fabulous inspiration from our splendid DT … and from our talented and returning Guest Designer, Marieke.  There’s so much to enjoy at Marieke’s blog … go have a meander, you’ll love it!

Twofer Card Challenge #9 – Leaves

Hello … bonjour!  Welcome to another Twofer Card Challenge … this month, we have a prompt that’s perfectly appropriate for this time of year, whether you’re looking forward to the richness of autumn or the freshness of spring where you are in the world.  It’s …

Here’s how mine tumbled …

My common stamp here is a small leafy sprig from Concord & 9th‘s Wildflower stamp set … here’s a closer look at each card …

Some judicious masking and lots of different colours of greens, rusts, yellows and browns stamped into a leafy autumn wreath … the small sprig was joined by a bigger leaf image from the same Concord & 9th set.  I gold heat embossed the Avery Elle sentiment, trimmed it out, edged it with more gold heat embossing … and popped the panel up on foam tape across the outline stamping.  There’s no added bling as this is for a man’s birthday … though it could easily be dressed up with some shimmer and shine for a girl!

My Twofer …

Here the leafy sprig was turned into mistletoe for a Christmas card.   I die cut the peek a boo window (MFT) first, then did some selective stamping of the image to create a nice full bunch of mistletoe.  The leaves were coloured with Zigs, I made berries with dots of black fine liner and some Nuvo Jewel Drops … and added a shadow with a light grey-green alcohol marker.  The Uniko sentiment was stamped in Delicata Gold and I added a tiny gold thread bow to finish off.  How about a closer look at those berries …

In the interest of full disclosure, I should tell you that this is the third version of this design.  The first had red berries … hmmm … it was jolly enough but didn’t look right.  I could have claimed artistic licence and left it like that, but has anyone ever seen mistletoe with red berries??  So, the second version got white berries … Nuvo drops first, black fine liner dots second.  Did you know (I didn’t) that black liner on a slick surface can smudge horribly, even days later?  I know now … and nasty smudges aren’t a Good Thing when the photographs have yet to be taken!  Onto attempt three … black pen dots first, Nuvo drops over the top.  The drops magnified the tiny dots rather a lot and to my eyes the berries now look a little frogs’ spawn-y.  However, my creative energy was all but gone by this time, so you’re seeing the best version I could muster!

Where will our ‘Leaves’ prompt take you this month?  We’d love to see what you make in our gallery!  All the details are over at the Twofer blog … along with lots of lovely inspiration from our fabulous DT … it’s just a click away!  We’re delighted to have two Guest Designers with us this time round, winners of our July challenge … Linda fromScrappin’ Stampin’ and Singin’ and Susan from Cat’s Ink.Corporated.  Do go and have a visit with Linda and Susan … apart from their delicious Twofer cards, you’ll find a whole heap of wonderful projects to meander through and enjoy!

Twofer Card Challenge #8 – Geometric

Hello … bonjour!  Welcome to our latest Twofer Card Challenge!  This month, we have a cool, stylish and fun prompt … it’s …

Here’s where I went with it …

My common stamp here is the small triangle from Papertrey‘s Sketched Shapes … I love the interest that the scribbly pattern adds … and triangles are so versatile!  How about a closer look at each card?

Here I created a random pattern of overlapping triangles on my one layer card, using four different blue hues, pointing down and up towards the oversized Simon Says Stamp greeting, which was nestled into them.  The birthday sentiment and the random dots on the triangles (Simon Says Stamp Lots of Dots) were silver heat embossed … adds a bit of shine without being too much for a masculine card.

My Twofer …

Doesn’t that single triangle stamp make a cute cluster of Christmas trees?  The bottom layer on each tree is the same triangle as on my first card.  Thanks to a negative mask that I hand cut in the shape of the tree, I could stamp the layers (which diminish in size as the trees get taller) and the trunks … with the same triangle stamp.  I used the positive part of the mask to protect the two front trees while the background one was stamped through the mask.  The sentiment is from WPlus9, heat embossed in gold and the trees are dressed in gold foil stars and Santa red bling. There’s a smidge of shading under the trees, though it’s hard to see here.  The finished panel was adhered to a card base that had been trimmed top and bottom with gold washi tape.

Voilà … my two distinctly different designs … for two distinctly different occasions … using the same stamp!

How will your imagination use our ‘Geometric’ prompt this month?  Will you go conventional or unconventional … or both, as I did?  We’d love to see what you create in our gallery.   All the details you need to play along are over at the Twofer blog … along with plenty of delicious ideas from the DT to get those artistic juices flowing.   We’re delighted to have two Guest Designers with us this time round … welcome to Cheryl from Paper Panacea and Brenda from Inkspired to Stamp, who also have some wonderful inspiration for you.  Do pop over and see both Cheryl and Brenda … there’s so much to see and enjoy over on their blogs … and they’ll be delighted you called!

A New Challenge At Time Out – #113 – Inspired By Words

Hello … bonjour!  We’re starting a fresh new challenge at Time Out today … this fortnight we’re Inspired By Words … smile, it’s the key that fits the lock of everybody’s heart … here’s where my imagination took me …Time OutSome Mama Elephant letters (from my unused items box, which is miniscule!), sponged with Distress Inks, stacked up and adhered to the card panel to form the ‘smile’ part of our quote.  The little balloon bearing chick is from Stampendous and was coloured with alcohol markers … and the supplementary sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp.  I added Wink of Stella to the balloon and to the letters and coated them all with Glossy Accents.    Voilà … a cute CAS card that I hope will have you smiling!

Where will our words take your creative imagination?  You can use any or all of them to inspire your card … we’d love if it you joined us in the gallery.  We’re sponsored by Stencils by Funky Fossils Designs (thanks, Sarah … here on instagram!) … our overall winner (as voted for by the DT) will have their choice of three stencils from the store … and will also be invited to design with us in a future challenge.  All the details are over at Time Out, along with a heaps of lovely inspiration from our fabulous DT … as well as from our talented Guest Designer, Amanda from Diamond Lane Designs.   Do go and visit Amanda … you’ll have a lovely time wandering through all the yummy cards over there!
