Time Out DT #51 – Mid Challenge Reminder, Darnell’s NBUS #6, CAS Mix Up – March, AAA Cards #59, SSS Monday – 7 March

Hello … bonjour!  Are you playing along with us at our second anniversary challenge at Time Out this fortnight?  Our theme is Easter or Spring (with an optional twist of masking) … and there’s plenty of time to link up.  This week, I left out the masking but stayed with the colours and theme of Easter …

Time Out DT 51RTime OutI stamped and white heat embossed the Rejoice sentiment down a white card panel (thank goodness for Misti!), used a broad brush to swipe a watercolour wash of Distress Ink over each word, and adhered the panel to the card base.  A stitched border was embossed down each side of the panel and the base.  I cut the Easter cross in woodgrain card stock, popped it up on foam tape onto the card, and stamped the sentiment in black Versafine.  The white embossing resisted the ink a little … oops … so I went over those parts with a Micron fine black pen … that did the trick!  Products are all from SSS except the stitched border, which is Lawn Fawn.

So … will you play along … there are so many options with this theme … and we’d love it if you joined us in the gallery!  As befits an anniversary celebration, there are prizes … a $20 gift card from STAMPlorations for the winner (as chosen by the DT) … and two Artplorations stencils for a randomly drawn player who uses the twist of masking.  Details are over at the Time Out blog … along with lots of delicious inspiration from our wonderfully talented and returning Guest Designer, TaeEun from Rainbow in November … and from our own amazing Design Team.  Hope to see you there!

I’m linking up to …

Darnell’s NBUS – Anything Goes … my final entry with this all NBUS card!

CAS Mix It Up – Watercolouring… a fab new challenge from Loll and Bonnie … my additions were heat and dry embossing and die cutting.

AAA Cards – Embossing

The Challenge #63 – Featured Designer, Darnell’s NBUS #6, Seize The Birthday – 25 February, SSS Wednesday 2 March

Hello …. bonjour!  I’m thrilled and delighted to be guest designing alongside the amazing Design Team at The Challenge … every week for the whole month as the Featured Designer … how exciting!  We have a fun and versatile sketch to tempt you this time around (it’s a little further down) … here’s my take on it …

The Challenge GD 1and here’s the sketch …

The Challenge #63 - March Week 1- SketchYep, I switched the background panel to the right rather than the left … those tropical cuties needed to be looking in the right direction!  I masked the card base, sponged on some ombré blue hued Distress Inks and spritzed over it with Shimmer Spray.  The MFT birds were die cut, stamped and coloured with Promarkers … and I cut the MFT palm leaves in green and sponged the edges with Distress Ink.  The birds were arranged against the tropical sky (popped up on die cut fun foam) in the upper most branches of their trees, nestled cosily among all the leaves.  The Avery Elle sentiment was the final touch.

There are so many ways to interpret this fabulous sketch … where will your creativity take you with it?  All the details are over at The Challenge … along with inspiration galore from the Design Team.  Do hope you’ll have chance to play along with us!

My tropical birds are flying off to …

Darnell’s NBUS – Anything Goes … my second entry for the lovely Darnell’s sixth challenge … the two birds on the right are both NBUS.

Seize The Birthday – Anything Goes

SSS Wednesday – Touchy Feely … those popped up birds amid all the texture-y leaves.

Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

Happy Little Stampers CAS Challenge – Guest Designer – March, Darnell’s NBUS #6, SSS Monday – 29 February, SSS Wednesday – 2 March, SSS Work It Wednesday – February

Hello …. bonjour!  I’m honoured and delighted to be guest designing with the awesome CAS team at Happy Little Stampers for the March challenge.  The theme this month is Faux Mother of Pearl … a lovely, soft technique that I’d never explored … now that I have, I can understand how much depth and shimmer it creates!  Here’s my take on it …

HLS CAS GD - MarchGuest Designer Badge - HLS         HLS CAS - March

Thanks to Loll (her video is fabulous!) and Toni (for Loll’s link and another), I had a heap of fun creating the panel above … and it’s so easy!  I used a squidge of Liquid Pearls, scrunched up a piece of cling film, dibbled it into the PP and pounced to my heart’s content onto a white card panel.  Once the panel was dry, I sponged over a bunch of green and blue hued Distress Inks … the pounced Liquid Pearls resisted the DI, so all that was needed to finish off the panel was a gentle polish with a paper towel.  I trimmed the panel to fit my card front, adhered the SSS floral stem die cut to it (NBUS … from my lovely friend, Michele) and mounted the whole thing up on fun foam onto the base.   The SSS sentiment was stamped in Memento Paris Dusk and covered with Wink of Stella … and was surrounded by  a scattering of die cut hearts (from the panel offcuts), which had been coated with Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents before being adhered to the card base.  Like to see a detail shot of that faux mother of pearl shimmer …

HLS CAS GD Detail - MarchSo … have you tried the Faux Mother of Pearl Technique?  It’s fun … why not give it a go … we’d love to see your CAS creation in the gallery!  All the details are over on the Happy Little Stampers – CAS blog … along with a heap of inspiration from the Design Team!  Do hope you’ll play along!

I’m joining in with …

Darnell’s NBUS – Anything Goes … yep, she’s back for #6!  The sweet flower stems are my NBUS

SSS Monday – Leap Into The Unknown … the faux mother of pearl technique was unknown

SSS Wednesday – Touchy Feely … bobbly mother of pearl, die cut, popped up panel, GA’d hearts

SSS Work It Wednesday – Florals

Time Out DT #40, NBUS #5, SSS Monday 14/9

Hello!  This next fortnight at Time Out, we have a fantastic ‘CASE … With Your Own Twist’ challenge … our designer is the supremely talented, delightful, one and only Tracey McNeely of In My Creative Opinion …. yep, really!  Tracey has given us the most delicious card to CASE … it’s below … you can see how much I loved it by how I’ve shamelessly copied CASEd it!

Time Out DT 40Time Out… and here’s Tracey’s glorious card … see what I mean about *ahem* CASEing?

See the similarities??  Well, there were a few twists in my version … trimmed out and layered up  Papertrey‘s Circle Scribbles for my flower … embossed in WOW Silver Pearl EP rather than white (my NBUS … a recent win!) … blinged with tiny pearls … sentiment also blinged (with black pearls) … and the panel popped up onto the card base.

How will Tracey‘s card inspire you … the soft colours, vellum, heat embossing … and what will be your twist?  Where ever your CASE-ing creativity takes you, we’d love it if you played along!  There’s inspiration galore over on the Time Out blog … from our talented Guest Designer Stempelfrida and from our own wonderful DT … hope to see you in the gallery!

I’m linking my card up with a couple of challenges …

NBUS – Anything Goes … lovely Darnell’s awesome challenge … if you haven’t checked it out and played along … GO … you really need to see djkardkreations … your world will not be complete without a visit!  Oh, my NBUS was the Silver Pearl EP from WOW.

SSS Monday – Love This Technique … my second entry … again using heat embossing … I never tire of the magic!

Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

Happy Birthday, Bev! NBUS #5, WPlus9 Get Sketchy #3, Seize The Birthday 10/9, SSS Wednesday 9/9, SSS Monday 14/9

Hello!  I’m sure you already know Bev (one of my fellow BABES) … she’s generous, sweet, caring, fun, enthusiastic and uber talented … and she lives at Happy Dance.  Yep, that Bev … she has a birthday today, and the card I’m sharing here is to celebrate her special day!  Wishing you the happiest, happiest birthday, ma chère amie … may you be blessed with a wonderful, happy dancing day full of love and laughter … and a year to come filled with joy!  Your card has caught it’s flight and may even be on your side of the pond already (but probably not in your mail box yet!) … oh, and there’s a party … keep reading …

Happy Birthday Bev, NBUS 5, WP9 Sketch 3, STB 10-9, SSSW 9-9I stamped the happy banner from WPlus9 (Happy Mail) repeatedly across a white card panel and heat embossed it.  Blue and yellow are colours that Bev loves, so the individual flags were watercoloured with Distress Inks in Salty Ocean and Mustard Seed … I wanted the transition between them to be ombré-ish, so where the colours mingled there are various shades of yellow/green and blue/green.  I masked the panel along the bottom and used the same two Distress Inks to sponge more ombré colour to mimic the banners.  The rest of the sentiment (also Wplus9) was white heat embossed onto a strip of black card, which was cut into a banner and popped up on the panel with foam tape.  I mounted the panel onto the card base using fun foam, scattered some clear gems across the sponged colour and heavily Wink of Stella’d the flags.  You might just be able to make out the shimmer if you look carefully above … or it might be easier to see it here …

Happy Birthday Bev, NBUS 5, WP9 Sketch 3, STB 10-9, SSSW 9-9 DetailInspiration for Bev‘s card came from …

If you’ve met Bev already, you’ll know that she throws the most amazing virtual parties … but she couldn’t do her own now could she?  So rather in the role of apprentice party thrower, I thought it might be fun to return the compliment.  Bev … this is for you, my friend … just follow the driveway …

NBUS #4, Less Is More #217, Uniko #19, SSS Wednesday 25/3, SSS Monday 31/3

There’s not been a lot of crafting time over the past week … so I needed to get a wriggle on to make a card before Hammy pushes the Playhouse door shut on Darnell’s latest NBUS challenge (celebrating 800+ followers!!!).  Here’s a QACAS card that practically made itself …

NBUS 4, LIM 217, Uniko 19, SSSW 25-3, SSSM 31-3… with a little help from my lovely friend, Michele (I Card Everyone), who sent me this rather splendid (NBUS to me) SSS Fresh Daisies paint chip die cut (among a host of other gorgeous goodies) … thanks again, my friend!  I cut the SSS grid border into a white card panel, mounted the daisies onto it and stamped the Papertrey sentiment in grey.  A piece of grey striped DP was adhered onto the card base under the grid and I popped the panel up over it on foam tape.  A scattering of blingy dew was the finishing touch.

I’m playing along with …

Darnell’s NBUS – Anything Goes … félicitations, mon amie … what a difference you make in blogland … so many people delighting in sharing the joys of life in and around the Playhouse!

Less Is More – Combine Any Three Previous LIM Challenges … mine are #2 (Flower or Tree), #146 (Use DP in a CAS way) and #213 (This Makes Me Happy) … CAS is my happy!

NBUS #3, Winnie & Walter Birthday Bash/JITW, Simply Create Too #76, SSS Monday 5/1, SSS Wednesday 7/1

I’ve been waiting for some cards to be received before I posted them here … now they’re in the hands of the people they were sent to, I can show you without spoiling any surprises!  I don’t often do a multiple card post, so please bear with me as I figure out how to do it without being too repetitive!  There are three cards … these first two will be heading for the same linkies …

NBUS 3, W&W Birthday, SSSM 5-1, SSSW 7-1 On a white panel, I stamped the ‘fireworks’ in Delicata Gold, Brilliance Platinum and Brilliance Silver (they’re NBUS flower centres from Papertrey‘s Friendly Flowers).  The sentiment’s from Winnie & Walter (Big, Bold, Happy), stamped in Versamark and embossed with Liquid Platinum EP.  The top and bottom strips are also embossed with Liquid Platinum.  I attached the panel and strips to the card base and added a scattering of sequins.

W&W Birthday, NBUS 3, SSSM 5-1, SSSW 7-1Another white panel, this time masked, stamped and silver embossed with Winnie & Walter‘s Big Bang Confetti stars, then sponged with Distress Inks to create a gradient.  I cut the Avery Elle happy (NBUS) out of the panel, and another five times out of white cardstock, and stacked them up, finishing with the sponged/stamped layer.   The ‘New Year’ is Lawn Fawn‘s Milo’s ABCs (NBUS), stamped and embossed in silver.  I adhered a piece of printer paper behind the die cut so the happy could he slotted into place on the panel, then the panel was popped up on foam tape on the base card.

These two are destined for …

Darnell’s NBUS – Anything Goes (isn’t the lovely Darnell amazing … not only a fabulous challenge for reaching 700+ followers, which is so wonderful in itself, but as there have been so many entries, she’s upped the prizes from five to 10 US$25 gift vouchers … how generous is that!  These are my second and third entries)

Winnie & Walter Birthday Bash – Gayatri’s CAS and Freestyle Collage challenge and Vanessa’s Gradient challenge (Congratulations on W&W’s first birthday, Julie and Shay … such fantastic and fun celebration challenges, thank you!)

Winnie & Walter Join In To Win – January (an ongoing challenge to use W&W’s fabulous goodies!)

SSS Monday – Old and New (First card – old: W&W sentiment, new: ‘fireworks’, second card – old:  W&W stars/Distress Inks, new:  die cut/sentiment)

SSS Wednesday – Something New (First card – ‘fireworks’, second card – die cut/sentiment)

Here’s my final card …

SCT 76, SSSM 5-1, SSSW 7-1I used a Papertrey Happy Phrase Play die cut, selectively Versamarked it, and did some double embossing, first with silver EP, then with gold.  I sponged the circle on the base card with Distress Inks, covered it with Wink of Stella and popped the Phrase Play up on foam tape over it.  A scattering of sequins and gems were added and I cut a little tag with MFT‘s circle stax, stamped and silver embossed the W&W sentiment, added a few stars and left it to hang free from the ‘y’ with silver thread (courtesy of my lovely friend, Bev).

I’m playing along with …

Simply Create Too – Celebrate (New Year – in this part of France the opportunity to exchange good wishes for new year runs until the end of January … by that time most people have seen or spoken with everyone they needed to!)

Winnie & Walter Join in to Win – January (that little tag)

SSS Monday – Old and New (new:  Phrase Play Happy, old:  everything else)

SSS Wednesday – Something New (Phrase Play Happy)

Phew, if you’re still here, thanks for sticking with me!  Thanks too for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

I wasn’t expecting to be here today, but as the card that’s about to be revealed has flown across the pond in lickety split quick time, I can show it to you without ruining the surprise for the recipient!  Here it is …

NBUS 3, SYS 5, AAA 31, SSSW 24-12The Papertrey chevron die cuts are my NBUS (Never Before Used Schtuff in Darnellese) … I cut lots of them, heat embossed the top layers with gold and silver, stacked them all up and adhered them in place.  The Mama Elephant sentiment (masked from a larger one) was also heat embossed in gold and silver to match the chevrons.  The tiny stars are actually rather unique champagne bubbles … … after all, it’s a new year celebration card, so there has to be a little bubbly … bet you’ve never seen star shaped bubbles before!

I’m playing along with …

Darnell’s NBUS – Anything Goes (as long as there’s Never Before Used Schtuff involved)

ShowCASe Your Style – At Least One Die Cut (loads here … my first time joining in)

One Layer Simplicity #9 (Hip To Be Square), NBUS #2, Moxie Fab World Fabulous Friday 12/9 (Getting Fancy), Winnie & Walter Join In To Win – September, SSS Monday 22/9 (Stencils/Stamps)

My card tonight is one I made a little while ago … I took photo’s of a whole load of cards I made and sent out to sweet friends, some of which have already been shared here … others, I thought, I’d show later.  Well, later’s arrived!  My crafting-in-marginal-moments phase is still going on at the moment, so whilst there’s a scheduled Time Out DT post due, the only other card in (very slow!) progress isn’t finished yet.  Here’s today’s little checkered number (which one of you will recognise!) …

OLS 9, NBUS 2, MFWFF 12-9, W&W JITW, SSSM 22-9The background was built up using a TAWS stamp … it has with two rows of five small squares, so I inked it up in sets of colours and stamped it repeatedly across the card to create a rainbow/ombré checkerboard.  The Winnie & Walter sentiment was stamped and heat embossed, and I added a little subtle bling.  Voila!

Popping along to  …

One Layer Simplicity (Hip to Be Square) – the fabulous Ardyth is the host this month … love the theme and planned out quite a few ideas in my head … unfortunately, that’s where they stayed!  Squeezing in here during the closing moments!

Darnell’s NBUS Challenge – you all know about this already!  The checkerboard stamp is my NBUS and this is my third and final entry … which is p’raps as well seeing as Mr Linky will be on door duty tomorrow!

Moxie Fab World Fabulous Friday (Getting Fancy) – have a look at the amazing inspiration photo below … I thought all my colours and the shiny black sentiment were a pretty good match to all those cool bottles of nail polish!

Winnie & Walter Join In To Win – love using these W&W big sentiments!

SSS Monday (Stencils and/or Stamps) – I went with stamps … after all it is Stamptember!

I have a couple of hello’s to say to two new followers tonight … non-blogging card maker Karen … and Rachel, who has just posted her first lovely card over at inkyfingersareme … and is in the process of setting up a craft room.  You can check out the ‘before’ photo’s on Rachels blog … and then pop back for the ‘afters’ when it’s done … I know she’ll appreciate the visit!  You’re both very welcome, ladies … and thank you 🙂

Back tomorrow with the new Time Out Challenge … and hope to get my on-the-way card done before the weekend … see you then!  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

Happy Birthday, Bev! NBUS 2, SSS Wednesday 11/9 (Make Your Own Background)

Have you ever met someone that you liked immediately … and then the more you got to know them the more you realised what an amazing, caring, thoughtful, talented and delightful person they were?  I’m fortunate to say that I have … that someone is Bev at Happy Dance … and today we’re celebrating her birthday with a surprise party!  It’s usually Bev that throws the most amazing parties for everyone … this time she’s the surprisee!  The celebrations are going on over at Darnell‘s blog, and Ardyth is hosting the Linky party for all Bev’s cards.  If you know Bev already, you’ll want to head over to see her on her special day, and join in the fun at Darnell‘s and Ardyth‘s.  If you don’t know her, you’ll want to … so why not do the same thing … you really don’t want to miss out!   So, sweet Bev, I’m wishing you the Happiest of Birthdays … may your day be as special as you are … and may your year ahead be filled with joy, laughter and blessings galore!  We’re truly blessed to have you in our world, and I’m honoured and proud to call you my friend!    I made you this …

Happy Birthday Bev, NBUS 2, SSSW 11-9… which is currently winging it’s way to you across the miles … oh and there’s a little cake later!

I cut a spare Avery Elle ‘happy’ and used it as a guide to mark up where to slice a white card panel so that each letter would have a narrow stripe running through it.  Once the panel was sliced, the narrow strips were coloured with Promarkers, I covered a piece of copy paper with glue gun sticky and pieced the panel back together again.  I die cut the ‘happy’ out of colours to match the stripes, and out of the panel, stacked them all together with Glossy Accents and added a liberal coat of Wink of Stella.  The edges of a white card base were sponged with navy, the striped panel was adhered flat to the base and the stacked ‘happy’ was slotted into place.  I stamped the WPlus9 sentiment onto white card, cut it into a banner and nestled it under the ‘happy’.  A scattering of sequins with offset gems was the finishing touch.

Bev’s card is going to be joining in at …

Darnell’s NBUS Challenge – my second entry.  Just in case you’ve spent the last few years touring the universe, and don’t know about these things, NBUS stands for Never Before Used Schtuff.  It’s an acromym coined by the delightful Darnell, who is running her second NBUS challenge … this time to celebrate 600+ followers!  Can I also mention that as well as being delightful, Darnell is also amazingly generous … she’s offering ten (yes, 10!) US$25 prizes to randomly drawn winners!  See, told you, delightful and generous!  The die cut and sentiment were my NBUS … they came from the same happy package as yesterday’s NBUS.

SSS Wednesday – Make Your Own Background.   Yep, sliced, coloured, stuck and cut!

It’ll be really fun to come back a little later, see all Bev’s cards together at Ardyth’s and nibble on a little cake (see below) … so looking forward to it!  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

A little Piece of Heaven - This recipe is adapted from Nigella Lawson’s Guinness Chocolate Cake recipe that is in her Feast cookbook. The cake is so beautiful and moist, and it lasts for ages. It has a fairly strong smell of Guinness, which to a non-Guinness drinking person may be off putting, but take one bite and you'll surely change your mind, well I certainly did.
