Time Out DT #58 Mid Challenge Reminder, Addicted to Stamps & More #197, SSS Wednesday – 7 June, Uniko #32, Stamplorations CAS – June

Hello … bonjour!  Hope your week has been going along smoothly and happily!  I’m popping in with a reminder about the current challenge we having running at Time Out.  There’s still plenty of time (almost a week) to play along with our Home Sweet Home inspiration (it’s a little further down) … here’s what I came up with for my second take …

Time Out DT 58RTime OutOk, so when I look at my card I’m thinking dashing chap in crisp pastel linen shirt with black jeans … or is that just a leap too far?  If you look at the pavers in front of that fab window (above), you’ll see the colours I’ve picked up for my border (The Alley Way Stamps, sadly no longer with us) … shaded with Promarkers in a brick style pattern.  I added the Papertrey die cut in white, popped up over black, and stamped the supplementary sentiment (also Papertrey) above and below.  It’s finished off with some Ranger enamel accents in black.  It struck me as fresh, dishy and masculine (even though the colours are pastel) … what d’you think?

Where does your imagination take you when you gaze at this photo … stained glass, brickwork, block steps, pavers … where ever it lingers, we’d be delighted if you got creative and linked up a card at our gallery!  All the details are over at the Time Out blog … along with two weeks of inspiration from our awesome DT and from our wonderful, talented Guest Designer, Karren J at Stamping Stuff (you’ll really want to visit if you haven’t been visiting already!).  Hope to see you over at Time Out!

Finally, I’m delighted to say a wonderful warm hello to some more card making friends and followers … Isabelle at Izzyscrap (such deeeeelicious CAS designs … and Isabelle is in France too!), Mary at Carolina Cards (so many of you will know Mary’s awesome range already!) and Regina at Catchy Sketch (such lovely, soft floral creations!).   You’re so welcome, ladies … and thank you so much!

I’m playing along at …

SSS Wednesday – Father’s Day/For a Guy

Stamplorations CAS – Optional Blue … there’s a touch of it!

Time Out DT#34 Mid Challenge Reminder, AAA Cards #42, SSS Monday 29/6

Our Home Sweet Home challenge at Time Out is still going on … and you have almost a week to play along if you haven’t already … or if you’d like to play again!  Here’s my card …

Time Out DT 34RTime Outand here’s our inspiration …Last week I went all foreground bold … this time I’ve gone right the way through those doors to the end wall, with the soft pink and fudge yummy ice cream-y colours!  Are you wondering where the silver came from … check out those hinges on the first set of doors … all chrome and shiny!  I stencilled Memento inks through a STAMPlorations stencil onto a card panel and silver heat embossed the Mama Elephant sentiment.  The strips top and bottom were made by doing the same silver heat embossing on some scraps of card … they were sliced up and adhered flat to the card base, before the stencilled panel was popped up on fun foam over them.  I scattered a few sequins and gems and was done!

How would you like to play along with us … we’d love it if you would!  You can use any element or elements from the photo to inspire your design … colours, shapes, all that yummy white space … or any little accent as I did with the hinges.  There are heaps of ideas over at the Time Out blog if you need a bit of creative juice … from our talented Guest Designer, Sue from Foleys Friend and from our fabulous DT.  As usual, our overall winner (as chosen by the DT) will be invited to be a Guest Designer for a future challenge … and it could be you!  I do hope you’ll find time to have some fun with this picture … look forward to seeing you in the gallery!

I’m playing along with …

AAA Cards – Paste and/or Stencil Techniques … where the my lovely friend, the super talented Shona from Twine Around is Guest Designing … how could I not play along!

SSS Monday – Summer … those soft pink and fudge ice cream colours!

Time Out DT #26 Mid Challenge Reminder, Addicted To CAS #13, Virginia’s View #13, Winnie & Walter JITW – March

We’re only half way through our first birthday celebration at Time Out … and there’s still a whole week left to join us and be in with a chance of winning some fabulous goodies!  I’m popping in with another card based on our Home Sweet Home inspiration photo …

Time Out DT 26R, ATCAS 58, VV 13, W&W JITW MarchTime Outhere’s our fabulous inspiration …

Frame Collage Funky Bright Home Decor Upcycled Vintage Frames Hollywood Regency Apartment Decor Quirky Decor

If you were here last week, you’ll notice some similarities to my first card … I picked up the colours again … and a swirly sentiment to mimic the branches … but then went with a whimsical rather than graphic look.  I stamped and white heat embossed some Winnie & Walter envelopes, sponged them with Distress Inks, stamped the ‘lining’ of the open one with some Clearly Besotted stripes … and added some tiny white sticker hearts to the closed flaps.   The envelopes were clustered together on a white card panel, with the open one ready to ‘pour’ the sentiment out … the die cut ‘sending’ is from SSS (courtesy of and thanks to my lovely friend and fellow BABE, Geri) … and the ‘hugs & kisses’ is from Winnie & Walter.  They were both heat embossed to give them a little shine.  The finished panel was popped up on foam tape on the card base … and I added a coat of Wink of Stella to shimmer up the envelopes.

You may be wondering what goodies are up for grabs for our birthday challenge … the winner, as chosen by the DT, will receive a £15 Uniko Gift Voucher and a $15 STAMPlorations Gift Voucher!  There will also be a random draw … with a celebration/birthday stencil pack from STAMPlorations going to the winner!  So how about taking a closer peek at the Home Sweet Home photo, see how you’re inspired … and then come play along with us at Time Out, we’d love to have you!  All the details are over at the Time Out blog … where there’s a ton of wonderful inspiration from our fantastic DT and our fabulous Guest Designer, Mandi … see you in the gallery!

I’m linking up with …

Addicted to CAS – Distress (those DI sponged envelopes)

CASology #113 (Grass), SSS Monday 15/9 (Rock The Techniques), SSS Work It Wednesday #8 (Stamping)

It seems like ages since I was here … it’s not, but life has been full since my Happy Birthday To Bev post, so it feels a long time ago!  Popping in with a QACAS (Darnellism for Quick and Clean and Simple) grasses-at-sunrise card …

CASology 113, SSSM 15-9, SSSWIW 8I stamped and heat embossed the Annabelle Stamps grasses on a white card panel, sponged them with sunrise coloured inks, edged the panel with black and sprayed it with shimmer spritz (you may just be able to make it out) to represent the dew.  The base card was masked to create a square slightly larger than the grasses panel and it was sponged in the same graduated colour.  I stamped the Stampendous sentiment and popped the panel up on foam tape.

I’m playing along at …

CASology (Grass) – not joined in for a while and it’s good to be back

SSS Monday (Rock The Techniques) – mine’s emboss resist

SSS Work It Wednesday (Stamping) – my second entry this month

I’d like to say hello to a few new followers this evening … new-ish blogger Rubeena (who I’m sure would appreciate a visit!), non active blogger Estee and non blogger Connie.  You’re all very welcome, ladies … and thank you!

Off for some dinner before taking a tour of the blogosphere.  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are, as ever, a joy!  Anita 🙂

PTI Make It Monday #167 (DIY Notebooks), A Blog Named Hero #45 (It’s Not In The Cards), SSS Monday 2/6 (Magic), SSS Wednesday 4/6 (Fathers’ Day/Masculine)

Waiting for creative ideas to tumble into my brain has been a little wearing of late … they’ve sauntered, dawdled and ambled their way around for the last month or so.  Last night, though, I watched a PTI video from Erin Lincoln on making cute little notebooks (thanks, Erin!), had a play … and this morning woke up with pings (a perfect description coined by my sweet friend Bev!) battling for attention … and not just for notebooks!  Yay … woo-hoo … how exciting … at last … phew!  So, here’s the first of those pings …

PTI MIM 167, ABNH 45, SSSM 2-6, SSSW 4-6          PTI MIM 167, ABNH 45, SSSM 2-6, SSSW 4-6 - Inside

I made the back cover and wrap around of my 10.5 x 7.5 cm (4.25 x 3 inches) masculine-ish notebook (it’s going in the car … it can’t be just girlie!) using a Hero Arts background, stamped and sponged in grey.  The front is stamped with PTI Sketched Shapes with silver embossing for the sentiment (Reasons To Smile) and for the dot (Dot Spot).  The pages are white as I don’t have coloured paper (coloured card, yes, but it was too heavy for a wee notebook) and in my excitement at getting creative, I adhered them in place before stamping (oops!) .  Fortunately, it was easy to do afterwards using the same colours as the triangles on the front … just had to take care that the ink was dry before turning each page!  I took one page out to show you the two together.

My little notebook’s linking up with the following challenges …

PTI Make It Monday – DIY Notebooks

A Blog Named Hero – It’s Not In The Cards (anything but a card)

SSS Monday – Magic (no matter how many times I do it, heat embossing is always like magic!)

SSS Wednesday – (Fathers Day/Masculine)

I’m delighted to say a warm hello today to two new non-blogging card making friends and followers … Marisela and Lou … you’re very welcome, ladies … thank you for your company 🙂

Off to see if some more pings can move from brain to paper … to coin a phrase … I’ll be back!  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

CASology #92 (Garden), Less is More #169 (Sketch), SSS Monday 21/4 (Big Stamp)

Thanks for coming back … here’s my second card of the day …

CASology 92, LIM 169, SSSM 21-4At the Papertrey Blog Hop this week, there was a wonderful photo full of embroidered images … one in particular of poppies on a circular black background that was simply delicious.  I didn’t get to play along because ‘stuff’ got in the way … so, when Chrissie’s sketch (below) at Less is More popped up in my Feedly yesterday, I knew where I was going to look for inspiration!  I’m also playing along at CASology again, where the Cue Card is Garden, and linking up to Simon Says Stamp Monday‘s Big Stamp challenge.

So here was the issue … how to keep the colours of the flowers from disappearing into black cardstock.  Answer … after some brain strain … don’t use black cardstock, use emboss/resist.  So, with a negative circle mask over a white card panel, I stamped the leaves, overstamped them in Versamark (what a fab tool a Stampamajig is!) and clear embossed them … then did the same thing with the flower heads/centres.  With the mask still in place, black ink was sponged over the top of the embossing (an eek moment!) … happily, it resisted the black and any excess ink on the flowers just came off with a damp paper towel (phew!).  To add some depth to the ’embroidery’, I  covered the whole circle with Versamark and clear embossed it.  Even when the Avery Elle sentiment was stamped, the card panel looked too stark left completely white (even for me!), so I used an Annabelle Stamps background with the lightest grey I have to add just a touch of interest, and used foam dots to pop the panel up on the card base.

I’m so pleased to welcome another couple of new friends and followers … Bobby from Bits and Pieces, and Ileana from Ileana Plesan.  Most (if not all) of you will already know Bobby and her fabulous creations … if not, go and check out her blog, you’ll be inspired!  Ileana is an established artist (paint and ceramics) and has just launched herself into the wonderful world of card making … have a wander over and explore!  You’re very welcome, ladies … and thank you 🙂

It’s getting on time for dinner here, so whilst there’s more to come, I’m going to stop for a bit to take on sustanence!  I’ll return, fully replenished, in a while!  Thanks for coming by again … as ever, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

One Layer Simplicity #4 (Road Trip), The Card Concept #8 (Use An Umbrella), SSS Wednesday 23/4 (Keep It Clean & Simple)

Most unexpectedly, Monsieur Mojo made another appearance tonight … look …

OLS 4, TCC 8, SSSW 23-4I’m squeezing in almost at the last minute at One Layer Simplicity, where the always awesome Ardyth is the host and we’re taking a road trip … either destination based or journey-based.  I went with both … really!  The Alley Way Stamps had a fabulous inspiration picture for their Be Inspired challenge in March … I didn’t get to play along and can’t say where the photo was taken, but it reminded me of oriental lanterns …

Umbrellas… so I used this picture as the inspiration for my destination … Hong Kong.  Now, I know you’re wondering about the journey bit … ’cause you’ve already guessed I didn’t travel by umbrella.  However … I’m thinking you’ve heard of Mary Poppins … practically perfect in every way?  Her preferred mode of transport was the umbrella … and if she happened to being going on a trip, she’d go by brolly!  Stretching the point just a smidge, perhaps?  Mmmm, thought so.  The link for the next challenge isn’t tenuous at all … at The Card Concept, we’ve to use an umbrella … I used five (they’re moustaches, actually, but I’ll come to that later) for this Clean and Simple card.  Finally, I’m joining in with Simon Says Stamp Wednesday‘s theme this week, Keep It Clean & Simple.

I don’t have any brolly images, but as I was seeking inspiration this evening, Monsieur Mojo directed me to a stamp set I won a few months ago … TAWS’ Moustache Mania.  Seems one of the moustaches (with a few doodly additions) would make a perfect brolly!  So I chose a few jolly colours, stamped them across the card, doodled in the ribs, handles and finials, and added some Wink of Stella (to give the sheen of tropical rain!).  The PTI ‘Smile’ was stamped in the same colours as the brollies, and I added the byline and stripes (also PTI) in grey.  It was finished off with a scattering of bling (for raindrops).  Why that sentiment?  Well first, I’d be smiling if I was exploring the world (even if it was raining) … and second, have you ever watched a little child playing in the rain?  ‘Nuff said then!

I’m delighted to say hello to some more following friends this week … non blogging card makers Isla, Marylou and Bahb … and Margaret from Island Scraps.  Margaret’s new to our lovely blogging world although there’s already deliciousness on her blog to wander through … have a visit and you’ll see what I mean!  You’re all very welcome ladies, and thank you 🙂

I’m off for a very quick meander round the blogosphere before bed (it’s a bit late … actually, it’s already Thursday!).  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

Time Out #3 (Happy Birthday), Cure For The Monday Blues #14 (Neutral’s Nook), A Blog Named Hero #42 (Layer Cake), Hero Arts Spring Sketch Challenge, Make The Day Special #1 (Anything Goes)

Finally, I tied Monsieur Mojo down for a short while so he could help me with this …

Time Out 3, CFTMB 14, ABNH 42, HA Spring Sketch, MTDS 1

… and I’m hoping he’ll be less flighty in future!  I was also inspired by a number of challenges that just happened to slot together well.  At Time Out, it’s theme week and we’re using Happy Birthday with an optional twist of masculine.  Taheerah’s Cure For The Monday Blues inspiration picture is, as usual, stunning (check it out at the bottom) … I was struck by the striped mug, the triangle patterned napkin (?) and the doughnuts … and I also picked out the black frames.  We’re using layers or dimension at A Blog Named Hero‘s Layer Cake and my layout comes from Hero Arts’ Spring Sketch … I used Sketch 3.  Finally, I’m joining in with the first challenge at Make The Day Special, where Anything Goes, using at least one product from the store.

I stamped Hero Art’s Zig Zag background in black onto white card, sliced off a 3cm strip to use as the border panel and added a thin black border to the right side of it.  The strip was popped up on foam dots onto a white panel and the Avery Elle sentiment (Handwritten Notes, from MTDS) was stamped in black.  I added the wooden star embellishment to the side of the sentiment … it’s about the same colour as those yummy looking doughnuts … and popped a pewter-ish coloured brad (legs cut off) into the middle of it.  The white panel was mounted onto a slightly larger black panel and the whole thing was adhered to the base card.

I’m delighted to say a warm hello (albeit rather late as I’ve not been posting) to a few new friends and followers …non blogging card makers Sally and Denise, and bloggers, Deborah from Deborah’s Gems, Brenda from Friends Craftin With Friends and Christine from Poppaea Cards.  If you haven’t explored these fun, fabulous and inspiring blogs already, do pop over for a meander … and take a drink along … you may be a while!  You may also want to check out  Waltzingmouse Fanatics … Deborah is co-owner of this new-ish fortnightly challenge dedicated to Waltzingmouse Stamps (I know, you guessed that from the name, didn’t you?).  You’re all very welcome, ladies, and thank you 🙂

You may recall I’m Guest Designing with the awesome team at Addicted to CAS this month … so here’s a little reminder if you’re thinking of playing along with the latest challenge.  The Code Word is Far Away (so many possibilities), there’s lots of amazing inspiration from the DT and in the gallery … and more importantly, there are still days to go before Mr Linky closes the door!

Assuming Monsieur Mojo decides to be less capricious over the coming days, I should be back later in the week with a little something … it’s been waaaayyy too long … and I’ve missed you!  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

Muse #52 (Marion Vagg), The Card Concept #2 (Texture), Color Throwdown #277 (Baked Brown Sugar, Regal Rose, Soft Sky)

Continuing the theme of experimentation from this afternoon, tonight I have a card to share that seems to me to be a departure from my usual style.  Look …

Muse 52, TCC 2, CT 277

See what I mean?   It came about because of the combination of challenges I’m playing along with.  At Muse, Marion has made a lovely dimensional floral card to inspire us (below), at The Card Concept (where I’ve tried out a Clean and Layered style), we’ve to include texture, and both of these fitted beautifully with Color Throwdown, where the soft and feminine shades are baked brown sugar, regal rose and soft sky.

ETA:  I’m also linking up at Winnie & Walter’s Join In To Win, where we’re sharing cards we’ve made with their fabulous first release!

The grid border is self adhesive plasterboard tape, coloured with a Promarker … the idea came from my sweet and awesomely talented friends Bev (at Happy Dance) and Geri (at Manitoba Stamper), who have both used it to brilliant effect.  As we have rolls of the stuff around, I thought I’d do something rather more artistic with it than jointing walls!  I stamped and white embossed the Technique Tuesday flower three times on vellum and coloured the reverse.  The flowers were trimmed out, rolled at the edges and layered together with a brad.  I cut out the frame, ran it through my Cuttlebug and attached a ‘nest’ of crochet cotton for the flower to sit on … the cotton seems to mimic the flowers’ soft edges.  The flowers were popped up on the nest, the frame was popped up on the card base, I stamped the Winnie and Walter sentiment and added a few sequins.   Rather more involved than usual!

I’m delighted to say a warm hello to a new friend and follower, Sharyn from My Crafty Place … when you go for a visit, you’ll find not just amazing cards, but wonderful quilts and yummy recipes … and a fabulous craft room!  Welcome, Sharyn, and thank you  🙂

I do hope you’ve all had a splendid weekend … in this part of the world it’s almost over, so I’ll bid you a very good night!  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a delight!  Anita 🙂

Marion’s Lovely Muse Card

One Layer Wednesday #162 (Leaves)

Squeezing in with a card for One Layer Wednesday tonight … Heather is the host this week and the theme is leaves …

OLW 162

I was inspired firstly by this glorious leaf card by Anya Schrier (it’s one of my pins on Pinterest … I’m up to a whole five!) and then by a card I made way back in February, also for OLW, here.   I used similar colours and layout to those Anya used, only in a mini format … my leaf stamp is a small one from the Awesome Blossom set by The Alley Way Stamps, so wasn’t big enough to work well for a whole card.  I marked out a simple grid, masked the card base, stamped the leaf mostly in different greens, added a PTI sentiment, drew in black lines top and bottom and finished with a couple of gems to tie in with the pink leaf.  Done … um … not.

I’d like to say that the aperture showing the pink leaf on the inside was an intentional design feature … but if I did, horrid things would happen to me because it’d be a BIG fib.  It was more like a rescue mission after a ‘why-didn’t-you-leave-well-alone-it-was-fine-as-it-was’ moment.  The original pink leaf on the front of the card was ever so slightly indistinct … so dipping into my slight (!) perfectionist tendencies I tried restamping it.  REALLY bad move … it turned into a splodgy mess.  What to do … can’t cover it up (it’s for OLW), can’t undo it (trying would make the splodge even more messy), maybe the paper bin (shame, I liked it).  Then it came to me, direct from my recent Insider Class … cut out the splodge and take the design to the inside … eureka!  So that’s what I very carefully did … and will add a fun sentiment inside when I’m ready to use it … hopefully it will make the recipient smile!

Before I go, I have some new followers to say hello to … Kate from katescardcorner (a long time blogger with lots to explore), Betty K in Australia, an enthusiastic non-blogging card maker, and jkrohyo (a non-card making blogger) … welcome to you all and thank you 🙂

That’s it from me for now … just time to link before bed … I’ll be back in blogland tomorrow for a good dose of inspiration.  In the meatime, thanks so much for popping in, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂
