Twofer Card Challenge #36 – Your Choice

Hello … bonjour … I’m delighted to see you! As it’s the tenth of the month, our fun new challenge has just started at Twofer … and it’s just a little different than usual. This time around, instead of giving you a prompt, we’re inviting you to choose one of your own …

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is March%2B2021.jpg

I went with one of my favourite themes … ‘Blossoms’ …

… and created a bold, vibrant friendship card … and a soft, subtle hugs card, using Altenew’s Rosie Posy stamp as my common image. Here’s a closer look at each one.

The striped background is from Uniko … it was stamped over a circular mask to leave space for the central cluster of Rennie Mackintosh style blossoms. The blooms were watercoloured with Zigs and a waterbrush … and I added some detailing with a white gel pen. The Mama Elephant sentiment was stamped onto a die cut banner, which was popped up on foam dots under the focal image. Eyecatching in a CAS way!

In contrast, my second card has a dreamy, spring-like feel to it …

It’s still clean … it’s one layer … and unusually for me, it features a light grey card base. That lovely Rosie Posy blossom cluster was stamped and white heat embossed multiple times in a diagonal swoosh across the card. I sponged white pigment ink over the flowers (allowing it to go over the edges to create a halo effect) … and once it was dry, added a couple of different yellows in the centres. The sentiment was also white heat embossed … it’s from Papertrey. Soft Pantone colours anyone?

How about choosing your own prompt … to make two distinctly different designs … for two different occasions … using the same stamps, dies and/or stencils? We’d love to see you (and your cards) in our gallery!  All the details, rules and FAQs are over at the Twofer blog … together with heaps of delicious inspiration from the DT (who have each chosen a different prompt).  We’re delighted to have two fabulous Guest Designers joining us … Nancy from Scandinancy Creates … and Klara from My Favourite Day … welcome ladies!  If you haven’t met these talented artists yet, do go and enjoy a wander through their blogs … you’ll be so inspired!  Even if you are familiar with their work, why not pop along anyway … you can always say hello while you’re there!

Twofer Card Challenge #32 – Silhouettes

Hello … bonjour! It’s the 10th of the month … welcome to our new Twofer challenge for October, where we’re inviting you to play with …

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is twofer-dt-32-1.jpg

My common images here are silhouette blooms from Catherine Pooler’s Wild Garden … how about a closer look at each design?

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is twofer-dt-32a-1.jpg

A one layer card with a background of texture-y looking squares in ombré autumn colours. The squares are from Clearly Besotted and were inked, spritzed and double stamped … first horizontally and then vertically … one overlapping another. I stamped the wild flowers over the them, added a sentiment from Simon and adhered a few gems to finish off.

My second card has a much more summery feel …

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is twofer-dt-32b.jpg

My design here is centred, with the wild flowers and leaves stamped and white heat embossed onto a crimped frame panel from The Greetery. I blended Distress Inks over the panel, using four blue hues in ombré order, added plenty of Shimmer Spray and did a little white splattering over the top. The sentiment is from Altenew, also white heat embossed. I dry embossed another (larger) crimped frame onto the card base and popped up the finished panel over it.

How would you like to join us with your two distinctly different takes on silhouettes … we’d be delighted to see you (and them) in our gallery!  All the details about how to play along, including rules and FAQs are over at the Twofer blog … along with inspiration galore from the DT and from our fabulous Guest Designers, Carol from Just Me: C and Shawna from The Grand Stampede … welcome ladies!  Do go over and have a visit with Carol and Shawna … you’re sure to be inspired by their wonderful work … and you can always say while you’re there too!

My autumn silhouettes are heading to …

You might notice that the alignment on this post isn’t what it usually is … and links to the company products used aren’t there. That’s because wordpress has changed (as blogger has) and I’m learning how to use the new editor. It isn’t very user friendly (to put it mildly!) so it’ll take a while for me to become familiar with all it’s idiosycracies … I appreciate you bearing with me!

Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

Twofer Card Challenge #31 – Trees

Hello … bonjour!  It’s the 10th of the month … and that means we have a delicious new challenge for you at Twofer!  This month we’re inviting you to enjoy some time in the great outdoors (or maybe indoors!) with …

I chose a solid, stylised tree from Waltzing Mouse Stamps (sadly NLIB) as my common image … it appears solo and draped with stars in the middle of my clean Christmas Card … and on my birthday card, it becomes an autumn copse set along an earthy border, with the leaves just beginning to fall .  Here’s a closer look at each one …

Here, I cut a panel of linen card with an MFT Peek-a-Boo stitched die … and used that as a guide for placing my Christmas tree … done in ombré blues … and made frosty with lots of Spectrum Noir shimmer pen.  The starry garland (WMS) and the sentiment (from Winnie and Walter, also NLIB) were silver heat embossed, I stamped the ground for the tree to grow from (Ellen Hutson) and added falling snow (W&W) after masking the tree.  The panel was foam mounted on a card base that had been inked around the edges … and I finished off with a Nuvo drop in silver glitter at the top of the tree.

Here’s a more seasonal take with the same image …

The Color ThrowdownA one layer cream card with an Ellen Hutson border stamped as the earth.  The trees are just changing from summer to autumn colours (courtesy of some rock and roll/finger-dauber inking) … and are grouped together thanks to a little basic masking.  The tiny leaves (from WMS) have already starting to tumble to the ground … and have been blown right the way along the border by the gentle breeze!  The birthday sentiment is from Hero Arts.

How would you like to join us with your two distinctly different takes on trees … we’d love to see what you create in our gallery!  All the details about how to play along, including rules and FAQs are over at the Twofer blog … together with heaps of brilliant inspiration from the DT and from our fabulous Guest Designers, Helen from Helen’s Craft Haven and Lisa from My Paper Tales … welcome ladies!  Do go over and have a visit with Helen and Lisa … you’re certain to enjoy all the  wonderful design inspiration on display at both their blogs … and you can always say while you’re there too!

Twofer Card Challenge #30 – Sun/Moon

Hello … bonjour!  We have a squeaky clean new challenge for you at Twofer that’s just started … this month we’re asking you to be creative with …

I chose to use a happy, fun, sun image on my cards … one from Simon Says Stamp

My first card features a central, big bold sentiment where the sun takes the place of the dot above the i … a simple way to say a happy hello.  On the birthday card, my design takes up diagonally opposite corners, with the sun shining down onto an oversized corner rainbow.  How about a look at each one individually …

I created the shimmery sunshine goodness in the background by ombré sponging Distress Inks directly onto the card base … and spraying it liberally with shimmer spritz.  The front white panel was cut with a Winnie & Walter (sadly NLIB) bold sentiment … and I stamped the sun (and his chatty looking face) over the dot on the i.  The panel was popped up on craft foam onto the base, the centre of the sun was popped up again over that … and the supplementary sunshine sentiment (from Avery Elle) was slotted snuggly into the word aperture.  I finished off with a coat of Glossy Accents on the centre of the sun.

I don’t have a rainbow die, so cut this one using a curved Simon Says Stamp die and lots of coloured card scraps … added them to a breezy embossed background panel (thanks, Judith!) … and adhered the panel flat to the card base.  The white embossed sentiment is from MFT.  I ombré stamped and trimmed out the sunshine … and popped him up in the swirly sky.  He found himself dazzled by all the colours in the rainbow, so needed his shiny (Glossy Accented) shades … they suit don’t they!

How about joining us with a favourite sun/moon image of your own?  Just use the same stamps, dies and/or stencils for your two distinctly different designs, for two different occasions … we’d love to see you (and them) in our gallery!  Details about how to play, including the rules and FAQs, are over at the Twofer blog … along with heaps of celestial inspiration from the DT!  We’re delighted to have two super talented Guest Designers joining us this month … Mac from The Sweetest of Peas … and Linda from Scrappin, Stampin & Singin … welcome ladies!  Do go over and have a visit with both these super talented crafters … you’ll be so inspired … and you can always say hello while you’re there!

Twofer Card Challenge #29 – Butterflies

Hello … bonjour!  Our fun July challenge has just launched at Twofer … and this month we’re inviting some delicate, fluttery insects to play with us …

My butterflies are from Uniko … my favourites …

They appear on my Beautiful Day card as a duo, flying along one edge, with the sentiment spread across the middle, between them.  This is for a wedding anniversary … and I liked the design so much, I made another for a different occasion, which I’ll share with you another time.  My You’re So Lovely card (it’s for a birthday) features the butterfly as the centrepiece, with the sentiment nestled in underneath it.  Let’s have a closer look at each one …

I wanted this card to have a dramatic feel to it … and for the colours to appeal to both husband and wife celebrating their anniversary, so chose bold oranges, black and white for the palette (akin to monarchs maybe?).  The butterflies and sentiment (from Altenew) were stamped in Versamark Onyx Black … and the former were coloured and shaded with coloured pencils.  It was going to be a one layer card, but when it was done, I thought it needed a little something extra … the slender strip of striped washi along one side seemed to do the trick!

I went for a much softer look for my birthday card …

Here, I stamped and white heat embossed the butterfly onto a mixed media panel … and watercoloured it with Zigs in rainbow colours.  Once it was dry, the corresponding die was used to cut it out, I stamped the sentiment (from Hero Arts) and embossed a frame round the panel using a couple of Hero Arts Infinity dies.  A piece of dark grey card was adhered onto a mixed media card base, so that it would show through the negative space and the finished panel was popped up over it on craft foam.  I scored along each side of the butterfly where the wings and body meet, folded the wings upwards, added a double layer of foam tape under the body and adhered it into the negative space.

How about joining us with a favourite butterfly of your own … or even a kaleidoscope of them?  Just use the same stamps, dies and/or stencils for your two distinctly different designs, for two different occasions … we’d love to see you (and them) in our gallery!  Details about how to play, including the rules and FAQs, are over at the Twofer blog … along with lepidoptera inspiration galore from the DT!  We’re delighted to have two super talented Guest Designers joining us this month … Barb from Barb’s Studio Creations … and TK from Time 4 Kards … welcome ladies!  I’m pretty certain you’ll know the work of these fabulous artists already … though do go over for a visit and say hello … you’ll so enjoy their brilliant twofers … and you can have a gentle meander through all their other creations too!

My bold butterflies are heading to …

Twofer Challenge #28 – Circles/Bubbles

Hello … bonjour!  It’s the 10th of the month … and that means it’s time for a brand new challenge at Twofer … this time around, we’re inviting you to play with …

My common images here are a couple of circle stamps from Simon Says Stamp‘s Lots of Dots set.  On my hello card, they were joined by a whole load of other sized circles from the same set … stamped randomly to create a lower third border that’s kind of bubbly.  The second card (heureux anniversaire … happy birthday in French) features the circles stamped in a geometric pattern on a central panel.  How about a closer look at each one …

I drew faint pencil lines to act as a general guide for my individually stamped overlapping line art circles … and erased them once the stamping was done.  The secondary sentiment (WPlus9) was white heat embossed onto a slender strip of black card that was adhered flat over the bubbly background.  I cut the hello (SSS) from a left over piece of watercolour paper that had been rainbow coloured for a different project, stacked it up on another four die cuts and adhered it over the black strip.  Crisp and CAS with a pop of colour!

My second card features just two of the circles …

… stamped one inside the other to create a cool pattern.  They were watercoloured with CP inks using a subtle, masculine colour palette.  I added a couple of twine tied Simply Graphic leafy sprigs (adhered just where they intersected to allow them to drift free), stamped the sentiment which translates as Happy Birthday (also Simply Graphic) and popped the panel up onto an Oyster Grey card base.

How about joining us with your two distinctly different takes on circles/bubbles … we’d love to see what you create in our gallery!  Details of how to play along, including rules and FAQs are over at the Twofer blog … along with plenty of delicious inspiration from the DT and from our fabulous Guest Designers, Jenny from My Paper Epiphany and Linda from Lin’s Craft Corner.  Do go and check out Jenny’s and Linda’s twofers … they’re brilliant!   You can enjoy a wander around their blogs while you’re there … and maybe say hello too … they’ll be delighted to hear from you!

Twofer Card Challenge #26 – Rain/Umbrella

Hello … bonjour!  It’s the 10th of the month … and that means we have a fun and fabulous new challenge for you at Twofer!  This month we’re inviting you to join us with your takes on …

I went with rain … though there is an umbrella on one of my cards …My common image is a stencil from MFT (Mini Staggered Raindrops), a sweet gift from Barb G … thanks, my friend!  It’s used conventionally with these cute critters on the I’m Here For You card and unconventionally on the vibrant, graphic Hugs card.    Here’s a closer look at each one …

My design here is based on a central panel with a wide border all around it.  I coloured the die cut critters and brolly (Lawn Fawn, from my Lake House stash) with coloured pencils and set them aside.  Their background was created using hand cut masks and blended Distress Inks … and was finished with the stencilled raindrops.  The critters were adhered into place … with both of them holding tightly onto that brolly.  You’ll notice that this is no ordinary umbrella … it’s one that when opened, shines bright, warm sunshine on those under it.  So not only are these cuties being sheltered from the rain … they’re also basking in the gentle, comforting glow around them.  The sentiment from Simon provided just the words I was looking for.  I trimmed the finished panel, matted it onto grey card and adhered it to a top folding base card.

My unconventional design uses a panel that fills the central third of my card …

I masked a single line of raindrops on the stencil and went to work with a host of Distress Ink colours, sponging one line at a time and shifting the stencil over to fill in the gaps between the rain drops that you see on my first card.  As each line was completed, the stencil was cleaned off, moved down a quarter of an inch … and I started again with the next colour.  When the panel was finished, it was trimmed and popped up on craft foam over some washi edging, on a side folding landscape card.  The black sentiment (Papertrey … also a gift from Barb G 🙂 ) was triple stacked onto white and adhered over the rainbow panel.

How would you like to join us with some rain/umbrella cards of your own … we’d love to see you (and them) in our gallery!  Whether you choose rain or umbrella or both of them for your two distinctly different cards, please remember to use the same common image(s) for each of your designs.  All the details about how to play along, including rules and FAQs are over at the Twofer blog … together with heaps of delicious and fun inspiration from the DT.  We’re joined this month by two talented Guest Designers … TK from Time 4 Kards and Rosi from Let’s Take Time … welcome ladies!  If you haven’t met these talented card artists yet, do go over and enjoy a wander through their blogs … you’ll have a splendid time finding inspiration in bucket loads!  Even if you are familiar with their work, why not pop along anyway … you can always say hello while you’re there!

Time Out Challenge #158 – A Reminder!

Hello … bonjour!  I’m popping in today to remind you that you still have almost a week to play along with us at our special challenge over at Time Out, where we’re raising awareness for epilespy (following Epilepsy Awareness Day on 26 March).  It’s a condition that’s close to our hearts at Time Out because Sandie, our beloved leader, has it.  You can find out more here … and by visiting Sandie’s blog here, where she talks about her own experience of living with this often misunderstood and complicated condition.  The colour purple and the purple ribbon represent epilepsy … so our theme for this challenge is … a lot or a little purple.  There’s also an optional twist of friendship as we thought it would be nice to send a purple card to a friend to give them a smile!   Here’s the second card I did just that with …

A one layer card using Mondo Hydrangea from Essentials By Ellen, stamped at the Lake House (don’t recall whose it was … sorry ladies!).  It’s coloured with Zig Brush Markers and a water brush … the sentiment’s from the same set … and it’s finished off with some Glossy Accents in the blossom centres … and a scattering of gems.

How about making a card with a lot or a little purple … we’d love to see what you create in our gallery.  We’re sponsored by CAS-ual Fridays (thanks, Michele) a randomly drawn player who uses the optional friendship twist will receive a US$25 GC to the store.  As usual, our winner will be chosen by the DT … and will be invited to guest design with us in a future challenge.  Details are over at Time Out … along with heaps of lovely inspiration from our fabulous DT … and from our talented Guest Designer, Kavya at Handmade By Kavya.  Why not have a visit with Kavya … you can have a delicious browse round … and you can always say hello while you’re there!

My purple bloom is playing along at …

A New Challenge At Time Out – #154 – We Challenge You To Be … Affectionate!

Hello … bonjour!  Our fun new challenge has just started at Time Out … and this fortnight We Challenge You To Be … Affectionate!  Here’s my CAS take on it …

I recently saw a card with a halo of ink blended around a die cut image (sorry, don’t recall where) … and thought that doing the same thing with a heart would make it seem as though it was glowing with affection!  My heart is from Winnie & Walter (NLIB) … die cut from a piece of masking paper the same size as the card front.  I used the negative part first to cover the card and stencilled the pattern (Tin Roof from CAS-ual Fridays) into the space twice, offsetting it the second time.  Once it was dry, I covered the stencilling with the positive heart mask, removed the negative mask and blended over the same colour inks to create the warm halo.  I stamped the sweet sentiment from Ellen Hutson (Hello) and Winnie & Walter (Sweetie) … and added shimmery White Blizzard Nuvo Drops around the sentiment and on the stencilled dots.  How about a closer look at the sparkle …

How will you interpret ‘affectionate’?  We’d love to see what you create in our gallery!  This time round, we’re sponsored by CAS-ual Fridays (thanks, Michele!) … our winner, as voted for by the DT, will receive a $25 GC … and will be invited to guest design with us in a future challenge.  Details are over at Time Out … where you’ll find heaps of inspiring ideas from our  fabulous DT … and from our talented Guest Designer, Mugdha from Craftomania.  Why not pop over for a visit with Mugdha … you’ll find plenty of lovely inspiration … and you can always say hello while you’re there!

Twofer Card Challenge #23 – Hearts

Hello … bonjour!  If this is your first visit here for 2020 … Bonne Année/Happy New Year … may it be blessed with good health, joy and creativity for us all!  Talking of creativity, our first Twofer challenge of the year has just started and this month it’s a particularly special one.  It’s our 2nd Blogaversary … and we’re celebrating with some amazing prizes!  Do go over to Twofer for all the details … you really don’t want to miss out on what Darnell has in store for our winners!  So what are we inviting you to showcase this time around?  Take a look at our prompt badge …

My common element is Poppy Stamps‘ Heart Screen (now retired) … with the inside hearts used unconventionally for my Christmas card … and the outline screen used conventionally for my Anniversary card.  Here’s a closer look at each one …

Three lots of hearts were cut from a piece of cardstock I’d smooched and splattered some time ago.  I arranged them into a Christmas tree shape right down the centre of the card and popped them up on different depths of foam dots onto a white panel cut with a die from The Greetery.  I stamped the stand (Papertrey) and popped up the gold foil star (Concord & 9th) … decorated the tree with red gem ornaments … and added shimmer spritz (after masking all but the tree).  The panel was matted onto some co-ordinating DP, which was then adhered to the card base.  A sentiment didn’t fit anywhere very well, so I’ll add a Christmas greeting inside when the time comes.  How about a closer look at all the shooshy colour, dimension and shimmer/shine …

In contrast, my conventional card is subtle and understated …

Here I used a fog grey panel for my ‘thirds’ design.  I white heat embossed the soft, splattery background (Concord & 9th) vertically onto the lower right two thirds of the card and the primary sentiment (Simon) horizontally along the top left two thirds.  The heart screen was cut once in gold foil and twice in white … they were stacked together and adhered over the white background.  The tiny supplementary sentiment (also Simon) was white heat embossed onto a sliver of gold foil card and popped up on foam tape … and I added a scattering of gold hearts (from the inside of the screen).  The panel was trimmed to size and adhered to the card base.

How would you like to join us with your two distinctly different takes on hearts … we’d love to see what you create in our gallery!  All the details about how to play along, including rules and FAQs (and don’t forget those prizes!) are at the Twofer blog … together with heaps of brilliant ideas from the DT to inspire you.  We’re delighted to have two Guest Designers joining us this month, both talented winners of our October challenge …. welcome to Jane from Onions and Paper and to Jacquie from What Did I Do Today?.  If you haven’t met Jane and Jacquie yet, do go over and enjoy a wander through their blogs … you’ll have a splendid time!  Even if you are familiar with their work, why not pop along anyway … you can always say hello while you’re there!
