Twofer Card Challenge #9 – Leaves

Hello … bonjour!  Welcome to another Twofer Card Challenge … this month, we have a prompt that’s perfectly appropriate for this time of year, whether you’re looking forward to the richness of autumn or the freshness of spring where you are in the world.  It’s …

Here’s how mine tumbled …

My common stamp here is a small leafy sprig from Concord & 9th‘s Wildflower stamp set … here’s a closer look at each card …

Some judicious masking and lots of different colours of greens, rusts, yellows and browns stamped into a leafy autumn wreath … the small sprig was joined by a bigger leaf image from the same Concord & 9th set.  I gold heat embossed the Avery Elle sentiment, trimmed it out, edged it with more gold heat embossing … and popped the panel up on foam tape across the outline stamping.  There’s no added bling as this is for a man’s birthday … though it could easily be dressed up with some shimmer and shine for a girl!

My Twofer …

Here the leafy sprig was turned into mistletoe for a Christmas card.   I die cut the peek a boo window (MFT) first, then did some selective stamping of the image to create a nice full bunch of mistletoe.  The leaves were coloured with Zigs, I made berries with dots of black fine liner and some Nuvo Jewel Drops … and added a shadow with a light grey-green alcohol marker.  The Uniko sentiment was stamped in Delicata Gold and I added a tiny gold thread bow to finish off.  How about a closer look at those berries …

In the interest of full disclosure, I should tell you that this is the third version of this design.  The first had red berries … hmmm … it was jolly enough but didn’t look right.  I could have claimed artistic licence and left it like that, but has anyone ever seen mistletoe with red berries??  So, the second version got white berries … Nuvo drops first, black fine liner dots second.  Did you know (I didn’t) that black liner on a slick surface can smudge horribly, even days later?  I know now … and nasty smudges aren’t a Good Thing when the photographs have yet to be taken!  Onto attempt three … black pen dots first, Nuvo drops over the top.  The drops magnified the tiny dots rather a lot and to my eyes the berries now look a little frogs’ spawn-y.  However, my creative energy was all but gone by this time, so you’re seeing the best version I could muster!

Where will our ‘Leaves’ prompt take you this month?  We’d love to see what you make in our gallery!  All the details are over at the Twofer blog … along with lots of lovely inspiration from our fabulous DT … it’s just a click away!  We’re delighted to have two Guest Designers with us this time round, winners of our July challenge … Linda fromScrappin’ Stampin’ and Singin’ and Susan from Cat’s Ink.Corporated.  Do go and have a visit with Linda and Susan … apart from their delicious Twofer cards, you’ll find a whole heap of wonderful projects to meander through and enjoy!

A New Challenge At Time Out – #106 – Home Sweet Home Inspiration

Hello … bonjour … it’s Time Out time!  We had a glorious gallery full of delicious cards to celebrate our 4th birthday this last fortnight, thank you!  This time round, we have a gorgeous, spring like Home Sweet Home photograph to inspire you to join us … it’s a little further down … here’s my take on it …

Time Out… and here’s the wonderful, fresh inspiration …

Isn’t it delicious!  As you can tell (I hope!) my focus was on the blooming broom branches and that lovely soft blue cake stand.  I stamped the three step daisies and sentiments (from Papertrey) onto a white card panel and die cut the image out of it.  Both pieces of the panel were adhered to my card front, with the stamped portion popped up on fun foam.  I finished off with some Stickles in the centre of the flowers.  Simply stamped … crisp and CAS!

What sparks your imagination in our Home Sweet Home photo … those spring time colours … the delicate blooms … that zesty fruit … the cool stripes … the ‘die cut’ vase … or something else?  Whichever way you’re inspired, we’d love to see what you create in our gallery!  Our winner, as chosen by the DT, will receive a $20 gc from our fabulous sponsor, Altenew, and will have the chance to guest design with us in a future challenge.  All the details are over at the Time Out blog … along with a heap of brilliant ideas from our fabulous DT and from our super talented Guest Designer and ex Teamie, Sarah from Funky Fossil Designs.  I’m sure you know Sarah already … though if you’ve not been over to see her recently, do go for a meander though all her amazing creativity and say hello … you’ll have a wonderful time!

A New Challenge At Time Out – #105 – It’s Our Birthday!

Hello … bonjour!  It’s a very special day for us today at Time Out … it’s our 4th birthday!  Huge congratulations to Sandie and the whole Design Team … may there be many more happy years of being inspired together ahead!  We’re celebrating with a most appropriate and fun ‘Inspired By Words’ challenge … birthdays are full of sunshine, love and laughter … here’s my take on it … Time OutOver the last week or so, all the blossom trees round about us have suddenly come into flower … and they provided the inspiration for my almost one layer card.  It’s stamped with images from Concord & 9th’s Beautiful Branches … I double stamped the blossoms … in light pink all over and in dark pink around the centres, not being too precise so as to mimic the style of the image.  The ‘because’ sentiment (Concord & 9th’s Just Because) was die cut, coloured to match the branches and triple stacked before being adhered to the card … and I stamped the tiny secondary sentiments (from SSS) around it in the same dark pink as the blossom centres.  I finished off with some dots of white gel pen on the stamens and a scattering of Lucy’s Little Gems around the sentiment.

Where will our words take your creative imagination?  You can use any or all of them to inspire your card … we’d love if it you joined in our celebration!  We’re sponsored by Concord & 9th this time round, thanks to Angie and Greg  … our overall winner (as voted for by the DT) will receive a $25 GC … and will also be invited to design with us in a future challenge.  All the details are over at Time Out, along with a heaps of lovely inspiration from our fabulous DT … as well as from our super talented and returning Guest Designer, the lovely Claire from Life On The Scrap Heap.   You probably know Claire already … if not, you should!  Why not pop over for a visit and enjoy a wonderful meander through all the deliciousness on offer over at her blog … you could say hello while you’re there too!  Oh, and one final thing … if you head over to the Concord & 9th blog, you’ll find that they’re also sharing about our birthday celebration!

Twofer Card Challenge #3 – Blossoms

Hello … bonjour!  Our fabulous third Twofer Card Challenge starts today … well, right this moment actually!  You all pushed the boundaries again with your cards last month, thank you … we had a gallery full of hearts in all their various (and sometimes most unexpected) guises … what inventive players you are!  So, March has arrived … and in less than two weeks, we’ll be into spring here in the northern hemisphere … how about a word prompt that fits nicely into the season …

Here’s where I went with it …

My common stamp here is from CAS-ual Fridays‘ Mon Ami set … to my eyes, it looks like a lotus blossom … how could I not use it?  How about a closer look at each card …

Here, I used the stamp more or less as it was intended … though with a little artistic licence … bet this is the first time you’ve seen lotus blossom on long stems (taken from a Concord & 9th set) … unless they’re stylised tulips that is!  One layer, heaps of crisp white space, some no line ombré watercolouring, a birthday sentiment from MFT nestled into the curve of one of the blossoms, and a sprinkling of sequins … a joy to my CAS loving heart!

My Twofer …

A little busier … and a smidge outside my comfort zone!  Coloured card stock (eek!), a white heat embossed pattern against the minty green (recognise the lotus?), some perfect pearl painting inside the petals, a black heat embossed thank you sentiment (from Concord & 9th) and a scattering of gems.  The pattern was straightforward to create … I marked the centre of the panel, made sure the central dot of one of the blossoms was over it, and worked outwards from there, stamping and heat embossing as I went.  I used an acrylic block rather than MISTI … it was easier to look through it to line up the overlapping central dots and ensure the petal edges were touching.  Seems to me there’s something a little groovy and/or 60s retro about it … may try something similar again!

Voilà … my two distinctly different designs … for two distinctly different occasions … using the same stamp!

So … what will your creative imagination do with ‘Blossoms’ this month?  We’d love to see your two distinctly different cards … for two distinctly different occasions … using the same stamps or dies … in our gallery!  All the information you need, including timescales, guidelines, rules and FAQs,  along with heaps of fantastic inspiration from the wonderful DT … is over at the Twofer blog … it’s just a click away!  We’re delighted too that we have a Guest Designer with us this time round … welcome to Verna from VA’s Creative Clutter, who was the winner of our inaugural Twofer Card Challenge!  Do go and have a visit with Verna … apart from her brilliant Twofer there, you’ll find loads of delicious cards to meander through and be inspired by!

A New Challenge at Time Out – #103 – Hobbies!

Hello … bonjour!  We have a fabulous new challenge starting today at Time Out … this fortnight we have a theme … Hobbies … with the optional twist of making a one layer card.  I chose not to twist this time around … and made this delicate little number …

Time OutAre you wondering what hobby my card illustrates?  Have a guess … got it yet?  If you came up with lace making you’re spot on … or even crochet would do it.  I don’t do either, though did dabble in the latter many years ago!  I sponged a panel of Bristol card stock with three different distress inks, did a little splattering over the top and left it to dry.  My doily die cut is from Waffle Flower … one of a number given to me by my lovely, non blogging, card making friend Judith last summer (she comes for a playdate every year while visiting family in the area) … isn’t it pretty?  I trimmed off the edge and adhered it over the blended area of my panel, leaving the outer couple of centimetres free to turn up a little.  The ‘Thanks’ is from SSS … die cut from vellum and black … hung slightly over the edge of the doily, with the supplementary sentiment embossed in white on a slender black strip.  I added a single ink-sponged heart (from Winnie & Walter), covered it with Spectrum Noir sparkle … and topped it and the die cut ‘Thanks’ with Glossy Accents, before attaching the panel to my card base.

How creative will you be with our Hobbies theme … and will you use our optional twist?  It was only when I started looking through my stash that the idea of lace making came to me … till then the ideas well was dry!  Why not check out your stamps and dies and see if they prompt an idea or two … we’d love to see what you make in our gallery!   This fortnight, we’re sponsored by CAS-ual Fridays (thanks, Michele!), who are offering a $20 GC to a random twister … and as usual, our overall winner, as voted for by the DT, will be invited to guest design with us in a future challenge.  All the details are over at the Time Out blog … along with heaps of inspiration from our brilliant DT … and from our talented Guest Designer, Ashwini from Experiments With Card Making Etc.  Why not pop over and have a visit with Ashwini … you’ll have a fabulous time exploring all the wonderful, fun, bright, happy cards on display … and you can leave her some love while you’re there!

Joyeux Noël!

Hello … bonjour!  I’m popping in this morning to wish you a Très Joyeux Noël … a Very Happy Christmas … may the miracle of Our Lord’s birth bring you great joy and every blessing on this truly special day … and always!  I haven’t had chance to post all of the Christmas cards I made this year, so am taking a moment to share a few of them here.  Most years, I make lots of one single design … this time, for a change, I made small batches of different designs.  The first of today’s quintet …

A simple, die cut 3D Christmas scene using the Concord & 9th Holy Night dies … against a blue foil background.  Isn’t that reflection amazing … and I didn’t even see it till after the picture was taken … a happy accident!  This was the only one like this … there were other cards made with glitter card and pearl card backgrounds, but there’s no mirror quality to them, so no reflection.  The Silent Night, Holy Night sentiment (from the same C9 bundle) is on the back.  I’m sending this card to …

Next, another mostly die cut Madonna and Child …

The die is from Tutti Designs … a gift from the lovely Michele (thank you so much, my friend!), cut from pearl card and adhered over a Distress Ink sponged background, spritzed with Shimmer Spray.  The sentiment is from Concord & 9th’s Holy Night.  I’m joining in at …

Third up, Bethlehem …

A Taylored Expressions border die (Lake House stash!) adhered over a Distress Ink sponged and splattered sky, with a white heat embossed sentiment from WPlus9.  The glow from the town silhouette is so much more glow-y IRL … couldn’t capture it on camera!  This one’s going to …

Next on stage … a snow covered village on Christmas Eve …

Don’t know where the village landscape die is from … it was from my Lake House stash.  It’s adhered over a Distress Ink sponged and shimmer sprayed background … and stamped with a Concord & 9th sentiment.  I’m playing along at …

Finally for now, a simple, rustic creche …

Don’t use a lot of kraft at all … though I do love the look of white embossing on it.  This lovely image seemed a perfect way to combine the two … it’s part of a Hero Arts full nativity scene (Greatest Gift) that I very carefully trimmed out so that I could use just the creche.  The sentiment is from Concord & 9th.  I love the simplicity!  This is heading to …

A New Challenge At Time Out – #94 – Home Sweet Home – A Shaker Leaf

Hello … bonjour!  Our wonderful new challenge starts at Time Out this morning … this fortnight, we have a Home Sweet Home photo to inspire you that’s eclectic and coastal-halloween in style (below).  Here’s where I went with it …

Time Out

… and here’s our delicious inspiration picture …

I focused on the clear vase and the rich tones of orange and brown against all that white … and came up with a shaker.  The background is a smooshed and splattered piece of watercolour paper, the window was cut with an MFT peek a boo die, extended so that the Concord & 9th leaf would sit nicely on it, and the sentiment is from Uniko.  How about a detail view of all that shaker goodness …

What grabs your attention in our Home Sweet Home photo … the colours and balance, as it did mine … those shimmery pumpkins … the ocean life … or something else?  Whichever way you’re inspired, we’d love to see what you create in our gallery.   This time round we’re sponsored by STAMPlorations … our winner will receive a $10 GC … as well as the chance to guest design with us in a future challenge.  All the details are over at the Time Out blog … along with a whole host of delicious ideas from our brilliant DT and from our wonderfully talented Guest Designer, Janet from Swanlady Impressions (who has a fantastic collection of delicious CAS cards on her blog to enjoy … do go and visit … and say hello while you’re there!).

I’m playing along at ….
