A New Challenge At Time Out – #94 – Home Sweet Home – A Shaker Leaf

Hello … bonjour!  Our wonderful new challenge starts at Time Out this morning … this fortnight, we have a Home Sweet Home photo to inspire you that’s eclectic and coastal-halloween in style (below).  Here’s where I went with it …

Time Out

… and here’s our delicious inspiration picture …

I focused on the clear vase and the rich tones of orange and brown against all that white … and came up with a shaker.  The background is a smooshed and splattered piece of watercolour paper, the window was cut with an MFT peek a boo die, extended so that the Concord & 9th leaf would sit nicely on it, and the sentiment is from Uniko.  How about a detail view of all that shaker goodness …

What grabs your attention in our Home Sweet Home photo … the colours and balance, as it did mine … those shimmery pumpkins … the ocean life … or something else?  Whichever way you’re inspired, we’d love to see what you create in our gallery.   This time round we’re sponsored by STAMPlorations … our winner will receive a $10 GC … as well as the chance to guest design with us in a future challenge.  All the details are over at the Time Out blog … along with a whole host of delicious ideas from our brilliant DT and from our wonderfully talented Guest Designer, Janet from Swanlady Impressions (who has a fantastic collection of delicious CAS cards on her blog to enjoy … do go and visit … and say hello while you’re there!).

I’m playing along at ….

CAS Watercolour – Fall Leaves … Happy 1st Birthday, Loll, Bonnie and the DT … and many more!

Happy Little Stampers Watercolour – Anything Goes … with the option of Gold (in the sequins).

Seize The Birthday 8/10 – Surprise Party Guest, Virginia’s View #19, SSS – WCMD, SSS Work It Wednesday – September

Hello again … if you’re looking for my Time Out DT post, it’s here …. otherwise, I’m back with the secret I mentioned earlier … today I get to be the inaugural Surprise Party Guest over at Seize The Birthday!  Thanks so much, Nancy, for the invitation and for your wonderful welcome … I’m thrilled and delighted to be joining you and the DT during October!  The theme for my first party challenge is ‘Splatter’ … those of you who have visited before will know there’s rarely even a smidge of splatter on my cards … but I threw caution (and Distress Ink) to the wind (in a rather delicate manner) and came up with this …

STB GD 8 OctI stamped Neat and Tangled‘s Scandinavian Flowers randomly across a white card panel, wiping ink off some before stamping them, to make the tiny flower heads and single sprigs.  The flower heads were masked off and I gently splattered the panel with Mustard Seed and Spiced Marmalade Distress Inks.  The flowers were coloured with Promarkers, had lots of Wink of Stella added and were treated to a couple of coats of Glossy Accents.  The ‘smile’ die cut is from SSS (with the surrounding circle trimmed off) … and the supplementary birthday greeting (also SSS) is nestled in just underneath it.  I added slender strips of black to the top and bottom of my base card and popped the panel up over them on foam tape.  Seems those flowers are happy dancing with such enthusiasm, they’re sending their pollen flying everywhere!  How about a close up of all that shimmer and shine …

STB GD 8 Oct DetailIf you’ve played along at Seize The Birthday before, you’ll know that the theme … or ‘Toppings’ … are optional.  So for this challenge, you don’t have to ‘Splatter’ … you can make any birthday card and join in with us … hope you will!  Looking forward to finding out where your creativity takes you … see you in the gallery!

My happy flowers are also dancing over to …

Once again, thanks so much, Nancy, for inviting me to your party … and thanks so much to you too for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

Time Out DT #41 Mid Challenge Reminder, Simply Create Too #95, SSS Work It Wednesday – September, SSS Monday – 5/10, SSS – WCMD

Hello!  Popping in with a quick post for our in between week at Time Out, which still has almost a week to run … this fortnight we’re ‘Inspired By Words’ from American poet William Callum Bryant … ‘Autumn, the year’s last, loveliest smile’.  This is my graphic, watercolour-y take …

Time Out DT 41RTime OutA watercolour card panel was stamped and heat embossed with the Uniko ‘thanks’ and I coloured the letters in an ombré fashion in autumn colours.  It looked a bit stark as it was, so I spritzed it with water (lots of it!) … the panel curved itself into a rolling pin shape and the colours ran gently around it.  By the time they’d done all that running, there wasn’t a lot of colour left in the letters, so I redid them .. and because the card was still damp, each letter developed a little halo of colour around it.  It’s much prettier IRL than it looks here … especially after I’d added Glossy Accents and a sprinkling of sequins … and popped it up onto a masked/sponged (to create the border) base card.  It did need to sit under an enormous dictionery overnight to flatten though!

What goes through your mind when you read our quote?  Whichever direction your imagination takes you, we’d love it if you’d make a card inspired by any or all of our words … and play along with us!  There are ideas galore over on the Time Out blog … from our talented Guest Designer, Glenda from My Paper Cat … and from our wonderful DT … hope to see you in the gallery!

I’m linking up with …

Still not around so much in blogland (or emailonia) at the moment … although I will be back later today with a little something … it’s a secret for now!  Looking forward to catching up over the next few days with what everyone’s been doing this week … what a lovely helping of inspiration that’ll be!  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

Muse #36 (Karen M), One Layer Wednesday #159 (Free For All), Simon Says Stamp Wednesday 25/9 (Anything Goes), Simon Says Stamp (Stamptember), Online Card Class (Insider)

Made it … phew … back for another post with my second card of the day.  The lovely and talented Karen from Made by Meadie is the Guest Designer at Muse this week and has given us the most gorgeous inspiration card (a bit like all her cards really) … if you haven’t wandered round Karen’s blog, go have a visit, there’s a generous helping of splendid deliciousness waiting for you.  At One Layer Wednesday, Karen from Snippets is the host and has set us a wide open challenge … Free For All … very cool.  I’m also entering Simon Says Stamp Wednesday‘s Anything Goes challenge and Simon Says Stamp’s Stamptember Event.  Finally, as I’ve used a little of my learning from Day 1 of the Insider Online Card Class, this is going in the Gallery there too …

I followed Karen’s muse quite faithfully … I haven’t done very much spongeing or stamping like this, so it was really good to play.  I masked off the centre of the card, sponged it with blue and aqua and then stamped the Annabelle Stamps flower clusters … some in lavender to give a very slight shadow and some in a darker blue for a more pronounced one.  The nearest clusters were stamped with white versamark, embossed in white (with shimmery bits in).  I used a ruler to draw the lines top and bottom and finally added the sentiment.

As with my last card, I did a little something on the inside … sponged a scrap of card, stamped the flower cluster, nestled the second part of the sentiment close to the blooms, trimmed it and edged it in black before popping it up on dimensionals.

One last thing … I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to my fellow Muse players for the Honorable Mention for my flower card last week … I so appreciate it 🙂

That’s my card making weekend complete … I’m off for a meander around blogland.  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a delight!  Anita 🙂

CASology #63 (Autumn), CAS-ual Fridays #115 (Fall Colours and a Leaf), Addicted to CAS #23 (Autumn/Fall), Paper Smooches SPARKS 23/9 (Picture Perfect), Simon Says Stamp, Insider Online Card Class

Monsieur Mojo ran away from home this week … think he was fed up of trying to work in an exhausted brain … so he left.  This morning he came back and took up residence again.  It’s taken him a while this afternoon, but all credit to him … he’s come up with a card that’s so amiable it’ll be happy in lots of environments …

I was inspired by Ardyth’s DT card at CASology … that wonderful cascade of leaves and those gorgeous colours … so I did something similar.  My leaves are slightly different in that as well as tumbling down the card, they tumble from summer greens to autumn oranges and reds.  I stamped the same colours round the edges of the base card, to mirror the change of seasons on the leaf panel, and added the sentiment in Expresso Truffle.   All the stamps are from Paper Smooches … the leaf is one of those easily overlookable little images in Vogue Abode.

As a rule, that would be my card done, but not at the moment.  I enrolled on my first Online Card Class a short while ago (Insider) and it’s been going on this week … mostly without me (given M Mojo’s absence and the lack of functioning brain).  However, I have seen a few of the videos … they’re awesome … stunning and clever ideas for taking your design to the inside of the card.  So I’m putting what I’ve learned so far into practice here in a very small way … having tumbled, the leaves are all now in a neat pile in the bottom corner … and I added a little more gratitude with a supplementary sentiment.  I wanted to add ‘thanks piles’  but don’t have a stamp like that … and anyway, I wouldn’t want anyone to misinterpret a message like that … I know you wouldn’t at all, but imagine, the very thought.

I did say this card would fit in well in so many places … so it’s going on a bit of a tour … CASology – Autumn, CAS-ual Fridays – Fall Colours and a Leaf, Addicted to CAS – Autumn/Fall, Paper Smooches Sparks – Picture Perfect, Simon Says Stamp Wednesday – Anything Goes, Simon Says Stamp – Stamptember, Insider Online Card Class Gallery … phew!

I’m making the most of MM’s continued presence so should be back later with another card …  for now I’m starting the linking marathon!  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂

Less is More #135 (Use a Stamp), MFW Tuesday Trigger 27/8 (Honouring Ombre), SSS Wednesday Challenge 28/8 (Anything Goes)

I’ve been setting up Feedly over the past week or so.  WordPress Reader has been fine so far along my journey in blogland, although I haven’t found a way of categorising using it, so everything just appears in one huge list.  It’s lovely when there’s loads of time to simply sit and browse, but it’s not very friendly towards the ‘quick-dip-here-and-there-in-a-quiet-moment’ approach I often use.  So, thanks to Kim at Joyful Creations With Kim, who did a wonderful indepth review pending the demise of Google Reader earlier in the year, I finally took the plunge and got going with Feedly … seemed a good time after my long ‘renovation break’ … it sets up everything beautifully and panders immensely to my neat freak obsession tendencies.

Why do you need to know this?  Well, I’m now at the stage of moving all those wonderful blogs I follow from WordPress to Feedly … and because I’m just a smidge technologically challenged, it’s possible there may be a few glitches along the way.  So if I disappear from your list of followers, worry not, you’ve not been struck off … I’m just using a different route to get to you :).

Now, onto my card for today.  Chrissie and Jen at Less is More are hosting a ‘Penny Black Plays Along’ special this week … their challenge is to use a rubber stamp, with watercolouring if possible, and there’s a prize!  In my Feedly meanderings, I came upon Tuesday Trigger at Moxie Fab World … a challenge I’ve seen out there, but never joined in with.  Cath’s theme is an ombre one and as the inspiration picture is so delicious, I just had to play along!  Finally, I’m linking up with Simon Says Stamp’s Wednesday Challenge, where the theme’s ‘Anything Goes’.

The image panel was watercoloured using the same shades as the ombre cake, it was stamped whilst still damp with an Annabelle Stamps image, and was then mounted on a previously masked and sponged rectangle.  The sentiment is from Woodware and I tinted the little pearls with just a touch of pink Promarker.  The coloured inks are from Studio G and the grey is Memento London Fog.

I’m off for a wander around to see what everyone else has been inspired to create.  Thanks so much for popping in, your visits and comments are always a delight!

Anita 🙂

Happy Birthday Hannelie!

I’ve not been around in blogland for ages (close to two months … yikes!) … the creativeness of the renovation has been taking centre stage to the exclusion of ALL else (apart from eating and sleeping)!  I have, however, so appreciated everyone who’s been in touch whilst I’ve been MIA (you know who you are 🙂 ) … my brief and very infrequent visits into the blogosphere and emailonia have been made a delight because you were there … thank you so much 🙂   I’ve so missed being around and it feels really, really good to be back … even though I must admit to feeling completely out of the loop and more than a bit rusty on the cardmaking front.

It seems though that today is a really good day to be back … my lovely friend Bev at Happy Dance let me know that it’s our sweet friend Hannelie‘s birthday today … so what better excuse to take the plunge into getting cardively creative again, than to make a birthday card to virtually send.  So, Hannelie, this is my first card in a long, long, long, long, loooong time … it’s to wish you the happiest of birthdays and a wonderful year ahead … and to say a big THANKYOU for all your inspiration, encouragement and generosity … our crafty community is a better place because you’re in it!

SSSWed 86On a linen card base, I stamped the Annabelle Stamps image in different hues using Memento and Studio G inks, used a waterbrush to colour in the ‘flower heads’ and finished with the Annabelle Stamps sentiment across the flower stems.  A gentle start after such a long absence!  I hadn’t intented to enter a challenge, but as Simon Says Stamp’s Wednesday Challenge is an ‘Anything Goes’ one, it’ll fit right in there.

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge BlogETA:  Thanks to my friend Ardyth, I’m also submitting this to this week’s One Layer WednesdayKaren‘s the host and has set us a ‘silhouette’ challenge.  Have to admit, I hadn’t seen the connection, but there it is, just the same … see, told you I was feeling rusty 🙂 !!

Looking forward to playing along again in all my favorite challenges over the coming weeks … and to catching up with all you wonderfully inspiring crafters.  Thanks so much for coming by … your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂
