Unscripted Sketches #206, Paper Smooches Sparks (Cool Shades – Teal, Periwinkle, Kiwi, Kraft)

Congratulations to the DT at Unscripted Sketches, where there’s a fourth blogiversary celebration … along with some fun extra stuff this week as well as the challenge.  At Paper Smooches SPARKS, there’s a Cool Shades week, with the yummy combination of teal, periwinkle, kiwi and kraft.  Here’s my combined card …

US 206, PS 21-4

The cute bird is from the Paper Smooches set My Peeps (don’t you just love that beak) and is coloured with Promarkers.  The sentiment is from Paper Smooches Chit Chat, the ribbon’s from Papermania and I cut the ‘frame’ using American Crafts card.

That’s it for tonight … off for a meander around blogland.  Thanks so much for calling in, I so appreciate your visits and comments!  Anita 🙂

CAS-ual Fridays #97 (Chevrons & Flowers), Unscripted Sketches #205, Less is More #115 (Lime & Black), Addicted to CAS (Friend)

I was surprised and delighted this week to have my ‘wow‘ card chosen for the Top 3 at Unscripted Sketches … thank you so much to the DT … I’m honoured!  Today’s card is for four challenges … as it came together, it just turned out that way … and as Electricité de France  have been carrying out essential works all day, I’m only just about squeezing in with a couple of them!

CFC 97, US 205, LIM 115, ATCAS 10

We'd love you to display our banner

SK174 US205

So, the colours (lime and black) are for LIM, the elements (chevrons and flowers) are for CFC, the layout’s for US and the sentiment is for ATCAS.  I made the flower by cutting a few layers with Cricut Jubilee cartridge and fixing it together with a black and white striped brad (having seen Susan‘s work on using brads up!).  The chevrons and sentiment are from Paper Smooches, the card is American Crafts (and it’s very lime IRL!), and the little pearls are from my stash.

I’m going to spend a very happy few hours a little later on the linkies for all these challenges, checking out the inspiring cards everyone’s submitted this week … what fun!  Thank you so much for coming by, your visits and comments are a joy!  Anita 🙂

Unscripted Sketches #204 and Some Help Please!

This morning I was woken at an ungodly hour very early by a howling wind that’d caught one of the shutters, which was in turn rattling and banging alarmingly … so off I padded to find said shutter and … um … shut it.  By then, I was AWAKE … nothing like a quick blast of howling wind through your PJs to send any thoughts of sleep scurrying for cover!  Anyhow, having now finished all my things-to-do-in-the-morning, I have a little time whilst it’s getting light to share a card with you.  It’s for Unscripted Sketches

Unscripted Sketches 204

US_sketch204

I turned the sketch 90 degrees, used my Cricut Jubilee cartridge to cut the letters out and backed the panel with a Promarker coloured ‘wash’.  The sentiment (WPlus9) was coloured in the same shades (although it’s not come out well in the photo) and it’s at the bottom instead of above/in the ‘O’ (I tried it there and the balance wasn’t right).  Instead of a ribbon or twine along the bottom, I punched a line of little circles and then mounted the panel on the base card with dimensionals.

In my last post, I welcomed batuck to the ranks of the Froggers but couldn’t find a blog to link to … Ann’s now been in touch (thanks Ann!) … she’s at Cardmaking 101 in Australia … check out the amazing things Ann’s doing with traditional and digi stamps!

Help!  I have a techy problem, and as some of you well know, I’m not particularly techy, so I’d really appreciate some help from anyone who is (and let’s face it almost everyone is more techy than I am!).  Firefox did an update this week and since then I’ve not been able to leave comments on some Blogspot blogs … those that have pop up boxes are ok, it’s the others that aren’t (Geri‘s and Shirley‘s are examples).  I’ve tried using my usual WordPress address and also an gmail address but neither works … what I’ve written just disappears into the ether.  Can anyone shed any light or let me know what I need to do to fix it?  Thanks!  In the meantime, though, if your blog is not a pop-up-box-for-commenting one, I’m really sorry … I can’t leave you a comment 😦

I’ll be meandering around the ether later tonight but for now, thanks so much for coming by, I really enjoy your visits and comments!  Anita 🙂

Unscripted Sketches #203, Addicted to CAS #9 (Spring)

Tonight I’m playing along with Unscripted Sketches (where I’ve not played for ages) and with Addicted to CAS, where the amazing Harriet is the host and has chosen the theme ‘Spring’.  What a lovely idea, especially as it seems we’ve waited/continue to wait (depending on where you are) a long time for winter to pass this year.

We always know spring has well and truly arrived here when the small tree we have in the courtyard is festoned in creamy white blossom … and this week it’s at last begun to bud (about four weeks later than usual).  It’ll be another week or so before it’s in full flower, but I used it as inspiration for my card anyway … here’s a picture of it a few years ago, in all it’s spring glory (even after it’d had a pretty severe haircut!) …

I focused on the green and white, which always seems fresh and spring like, and made this …

US 203, ATCAS 9

US_Sketch203

The image is from Penny Black, stamped and embossed in white, framed and with the leaves coloured in white.  The sentiment (p’raps I could’ve used ‘frond’ instead of ‘friend’!) is a Paper Smooches one and the gems match the green IRL (they look a bit muddy here).   Think I must have a thing in my head at the moment for having elements peeking out over the edge … this is the second time this week!

Time for bed for now … I’ll be having a sightseeing tour around blogland tomorrow to see what everyone else has been inspired to create.  Hope your week is turning out to be a happy one … thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are a joy!  Anita 🙂

Unscripted Sketches #201, Rockin’ out the Digis #1

It’s a few weeks since I played along with Unscripted Sketches so it’s good to be back!  I’m also playing with Jackie Rockwell’s new challenge, Rockin out the Digis (thanks to Hannelie and Ardyth for the heads up!) … it’s a digital challenge and as I’m definitely digitally disadvantaged, I thought I’d try it to see how I get on.  We can use the very CAS and graphic digi-images that Jackie provides or we can use our own … if you’re into digital images, would like to be, or just fancy giving it a try, pop over to Jackie’s to check it out and play along with this fun challenge.  I love the simple flower Jackie created so I’ve used it (rather than my own … like I have them!) …

US 201, ROTD 1

US_Sketch201

I originally did this as a one layer card but messed up the sentiment, so did a bit of a rescue job and added some dimension!  The image was copied, pasted, resized and then duplicated to create the two rows of flowers.  They were coloured with promarkers (to mimic the blocks on the sketch), I scored lines top and bottom of the panels, dragged the yellow and gold colours along them to add definition and popped the panels up on foam dots.  The sentiment (which behaved itself better on this version) is from Kaisercraft.  Can’t say if digis are going to be my thing … it’s just too early to say … what I would like to say though is thanks, Jackie, for the opportunity to have a try!

Moving on, I’m delighted that Sue of suescardcraft has joined as a new friend and Frogger … welcome Sue and thank you 🙂  Many of you will know Sue already as a member of the DT at Addicted to CAS, and will know she does some amazing work … check out her blog if you’ve not been before … you’ll be so pleased you did!

I’m off on a virtual voyage around the globe … and have just realised that globe spelt backwards is e blog … makes you think (in a very brief and fleeting way) doesn’t it … or is it just me?  Thanks so much for coming by, I really appreciate your visits and comments … Anita 🙂

Liebster Award, One Layer Wednesday #126 (Neglected Inks), CAS-ual Fridays #89 (Love Songs), Less is More #106 (Music OLC), Unscripted Sketches #197

First, I have a big huge thank you to say … it’s for my friend Bev at gottadothehappydance who last night (in this time zone) sent me this:

THANK YOU Bev, I am so touched and honoured to receive it 🙂  in fact I’m so delighted I had to do a happy dance last night to celebrate and still have twitchy feet!  Truly, it’s so sweet of you.  If there is anyone out there who doesn’t already know Bev, don’t delay going for a visit … her cards are always so creative and inspiring … and utterly and beautifully CAS.  On top of that, it’s impossible to leave ‘Happy Dance’ without a smile on your face!

So, about the Liebster Award … it’s for inspirational bloggers who have fewer than 200 followers and is designed to be passed on to others. These are the guidelines for recipients:

  • Thank the person who gave you the award and link back to their blog.
  • Post the award on your blog.
  • Pass the award on to five bloggers who inspire you and have fewer than 200 followers.
  • Leave a comment on their blog so they know they are the recipient of such an amazing award.

Since I joined blogworld, I’ve met so many super talented, creative, inspiring, supportive, sharing  and encouraging people (actually I much prefer the term friends if that’s ok with you guys!) … some of whom I know have already become proud recipients of this award … here are five more inspiring bloggers:

If you get the chance, pop in and visit, have a meander around their blogs and let them know you’ve been!

Now, onto cards … I have two to post today … and two challenges that finish in a few hours (one of them in this post), so I’m a bit squashed getting them in before the gate closes!  This offering is a bit of an experiment … for One Layer Wednesday, Susan at Simplicity is the host and has set us the challenge of using ‘Neglected Inks’.  I don’t have enough inks yet for any of them to be neglected (although I will have!), but there is one I haven’t had a lot of practice with (love the impact it has though), so I used it here, hence the experiment.

During experimentation the creative process, I drew ideas from some of the other challenges I love:  CAS-ual Fridays  –  Love Song (a card inspired by a song you love), Less is More  –  Music One Layer Card (yes, OLC!  Also at LIM, following Mandi’s departure, there is some good news … rather then being a ‘stand in’, Jen has become a regular designer … so more wonderfully inspiring cards from her are in the offing!), Unscripted Sketches  –  A super simple sketch (they’re often the most challenging!) slightly adapted!  Here’s my card …

OLW 126, CFC 89, LIM 106, US 197

We'd love you to display our banner          SK 166 US 197

The song I chose for CFC was ‘The Wind Beneath My Wings’, the lyrics say so much (check them out here)  … and we probably all have someone in our lives who we think of in this way, as a hero.

The ‘neglected ink’ is white, which has turned out better than expected, especially after it was embossed with white (and I remembered to anti-static the card beforehand!).  I’d never coloured on kraft before, but saw it last week on quite a few cards during my travels in blogland and liked the effect a lot, so a little Promarker was added here and there.  The finishing touches were the little heart gems to highlight the notes (which were already heart shaped!), scoring either side of the image  and dry embossing the rest.   The stamps are from Lawn Fawn (bird) and WPlus9.

That’s it for this post … hope you’re having a great day … I’ll catch up with you later during my meanderings.  Thanks so much for coming by … Anita 🙂

Unscripted Sketches #194, Less is More #103 (Friends) Again

I’d like to write that this was a very quick and easy card for the challenge at Unscripted Sketches this week … but I can’t because that would be a BIG FIB.  Well, the card itself was quick and easy … getting there wasn’t … and I have a large pile of waste paper to prove it!  It’s possible that everything I tried came out too unCAS … eventually, going back to some of the ideas I had for Less is More (Friends) this week helped (which is why it’s become my second entry for this week there!).

US194, LIM103a

SK 163 US 194         We'd love you to display our banner

The base is swiss dots embossed, the image and sentiment are matted, coloured with Promarkers and highlighted with Stickles, and a bow of twine is the finishing touch.  See what I mean … quick and easy to make, just took a while getting there!  Not sure if there’s a layer too many here for perfect CAS …

BTW, this isn’t the second card I’d originally planned for LIM … that’s still around and I might still get to it … maybe!  Hope your week’s turning out to be a creative one … thanks so much for coming by … Anita 🙂

Unscripted Sketches #193, CR84FN70 (Aqua, Tan, Light Yellow)

What a fabulous sketch at Unscripted Sketches this week, that lends itself to something CAS-ish  … and equally fabulous inspiration from the design team!  I’ve worked with the colours from CR84FN which are so deliciously gentle and pastel-y … Aqua, Tan and Light Yellow.

US193, CR84FN70

  SK 162 US 193

I stuck faithfully to the sketch, using tan polka dot paper as my base.  The daisies were punched out of white card, had the stem and leaves doodled and were mounted onto three different shades of aqua (IRL much more vibrant than they appear). I stamped the sentiment, matted it onto light yellow and coloured the daisy.  Gems for the flower centres finished it off.

As you can see, I’m having a bit of a challenge trying to get aqua to show well in the photo (had the same thing the other day with this card) … even when I do some tweaking on Picasa … if anyone can shed some light on what I can do, I’d be grateful!

That’s it for tonight … it’s been a lovely party day today with lots of cards and photo’s to enjoy at MASKerade … so to Ardyth for setting it up and to everyone else who posted for Darnell and Kevin’s celebration, thank you … what a fun time!  Thanks so much for coming by … Anita 🙂

Unscripted Sketches #192, Play Date Café #163 (Champagne, Sky Blue, Tangerine)

Oops … nearly missed the deadline for Play Date Café … it’s at 6.00am tomorrow our time and as I need to sleep before then, this is a very quick post!  So, the colours at PDC are Champagne, Sky Blue and Tangerine and I combined it with Unscripted Sketches.  BTW, I’d like to say a very BIG thank you to the lovely DT at US for choosing my card (here) last week as a Top 3 … I’m so delighted and I’m proudly displaying the blinkie!  Here’s this week’s offering:

US192, PDC163

SK 160 US 192

It’s mostly sky blue and champage, with just a touch of tangerine in the flower.  It’s done with die cuts … one of each colour in diminishing sizes.  I rolled the petals to add dimension and the centre is a blingy brad in tangerine.

It’s nearly midnight so I’m off to bed … thank you so much for coming for a visit and especially so if you’ve had chance to make a comment below … Anita 🙂

Unscripted Sketches #191, Ellen Hutson LLC Hero Arts Clear Take ‘n Make, CASology Favorites

I’ve a card to share with you this evening and then if you feel like scrolling down a bit further, there’s a touch of CASology Favorites to play with.  Here’s the card and also a picture of the HA stamps I used …

US191 & HA2013T&M

          HA2013T&M Stamps

The card’s for Unscripted Sketches, which I didn’t get to last week so it’s good to be back, and for Ellen Hutson LLC Hero Arts Clear Take ‘n Make, that I only recently discovered via my good friend Geri at Manitoba Stamper (thanks Geri!).  I stuck pretty much to the sketch and used HA stamps for the image and sentiment.

I stamped the bird five times on white, coloured all but one in yellow, leaving the one to stand out as different by using blue and a couple of gems.  Then came the sentiment (which was masked as I only used part of it) cut into a banner, and layers came next to frame the image.  It was all mounted on a swiss dots embossed panel, and the final touch was the three white gems.  It’s not as CAS as my usual offerings but I’m content … sometimes it’s good to do something different, it gets those little grey cells going!  Anyway, I like the message!  Recipe is at the bottom.

I spent a very happy few hours yesterday and today meandering through the last six months entries at CASology … there’s a favorites week rather than a cue card at the moment, with easy peasy access to all 24 weeks since the challenge first started in July.  It’s been extra fab for me ’cause not only did I get chance to have a review of everything since I started playing in October (a few weeks into blogworld), but I had the joy of checking out all the stuff I hadn’t seen before.

So WOW, WOW, WOW … to say that I am awe struck by the incredible creativity and talent that is out there is a smidgy bit of an understatement  … I could have ‘favorited’ so many … some already winners or honorable mentions, some not.  In the end I finally chose and linked one that was perfectly CAS, beautifully executed and made me laugh out loud as soon as I saw it … it’s Shirley’s Hello Birdie from Week 4, and it’s here, take a look if you feel like a chuckle!

There were a whole load of others too, so I thought I’d put the links on here for you to have a look at (if you want to be awe struck and inspired too!).  In no particular order …

Rosemary’s Sparkle Tree       Geri’s Leaf Trees       Ardyth’s Orange Orange!

Jenny’s Sweet Fruit       Melissa’s Time’s Fun When You’re Having Flies

Darnell’s Green Pear         Claire’s Leaf Frame      Tracey’s Shoe Trick or Treat

Jen’s Thanks Lifesaver          Donna’s White Landscape

So to Melissa (Creator/Co-ordinator), Ardyth, Jen, Rosemary and Tracey (the Design Team)… an enormous THANK YOU for such a great challenge and consistently inspiring examples … I so appreciate what you all do 🙂  Also, to my fellow CASologists thank you so much for sharing your ideas and skill … I am inspired by you all 🙂

Looking forward to tomorrow’s announcement about which of you talented people have joined the Design Team.  I’m off to make a card … if I don’t use up some of that download of inspiration, I’ll explode!  Thanks so much for coming by, and especially so if you’ve had chance to make a comment below, it’s a delight to read your feedback … Anita 🙂
