Time Out #88 – Inspired By Words – And Some Sunflowers

Hello … bonjour!  We have a fun and delightful new challenge starting at Time Out today.  This fortnight, we’re Inspired By Words … these from Roald Dahl … ‘If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.’  I have two takes on it … here’s the first …

Time Out DT 88

Time OutWe’re surrounded by sunflowers as well as vines at the moment … the blooms always seem to shine like sunbeams … and they do look so lovely.  Our Inspired By Words quote put me in mind of them.  The sunshine-y flower head is made up of one stem and four flower cuts of a Ragged Daisy die from Poppy Stamps (thanks to my lovely friend, Judith, who brought it along for a play date!), adhered on foam tape to a piece of textured vellum and surrounded by a popped up frame.  The sentiment is from SSS, stacked on craft foam and adhered to the vellum.  I finished with a coat of Spectrum Noir shimmer on the leaves and flower.

I subsequently saw Loll’s video on watercolouring tissue paper (here … if you haven’t seen it, you really, really should … thanks Loll!), and was inspired to make a second sunflower card …

Time Out DT 88A

This time, I used artistic licence as the sunflower is white and it’s the background that’s full of glimmery sunbeams!  Do check out the video for details of how to create this amazing tissue paper effect … I just followed Loll’s clear guidance, trimmed the finished panel, attached the die cut bloom and added a few coats of Wink of Stella to the petals.  The WPlus9 sentiment was embossed onto a strip of white card, which was adhered to the panel.   A close up shows the texture and glimmer much better …

What will our wonderful quote inspire you to create?  You can use all or any of the words to get your imagination going … we’d love to see what you come up with!  All the details are over at the Time Out blog, along with heaps of ideas from our fabulous DT and from our talented Guest Designer, Toni from Frankie Helps Craft (who you don’t want to miss visiting … so much yumminess to see!).  Hope to see you in our gallery!

Time Out DT #87, Addicted to Stamps & More #249, Happy Little Stampers CAS – July, Virginia’s Summer Blog Party

Hello … bonjour!  We have a delicious new challenge for you at Time Out this fortnight … our theme is CASE the Designer … and we get to CASE one of the amazing and super creative talents in this wonderful community … my lovely friend, Cornelia from Stempel Spass.  Cornelia’s fun, fabulous card is a little further down … here’s my take on it …  Time Out

and here’s Cornelia’s creative cutie …

I didn’t stray too far from the original … a couple of Technique Tuesday Chickadees standing on an SSS sentiment … a stamped line from Papertrey and some die cut hugs and kisses from Winnie & Walter.  The chickadees were coloured with Zigs, coated with copious amounts of Wink of Stella and topped off with a layer of Glossy Accents each.  They’re positioned so that one can give the other a great big birthday mwah … or maybe whisper something about a surprise party!  Want to see a close up …

What will your creative imagination make of Cornelia’s card?  There’s so much to play with … the fun image, those vibrant greens, the wood slice background, that encouraging sentiment, the layout … what do you see?  Whatever it is, we’d love to see what you create in our gallery!  This time round, we’re sponsored by Happy Little Stampers who are offering a $15 GC to our winner (voted for by the DT) … and as usual, our winner will also be invited to design with us in a future challenge.  All the details are over at Time Out, along with lots of delicious inspiration from our wonderful DT … and from our talented Guest Designer, Pooja from Reusing Cards & Quilling.  I’m pretty certain you’ll have come across and enjoyed visits with Cornelia and Pooja in blogland … if your haven’t (or even if you have), do go over and explore, say hello while you’re there … and enjoy every wonderful moment!

I’m playing along at …

Time Out DT #86, SSS Work It Wednesday – June, The Flower Challenge #9, Virginia’s Summer Blog Party

Hello … bonjour!   We’re starting a fabulous new challenge at Time Out this morning … this time round our theme is Celebrations … with the optional twist of making a one layer card. Here’s where I went with it …

Time OutI went with the one layer twist and was inspired by my lovely friend, Lindsey at Occasional Crafting, who makes gorgeous cards using outline stamps and coloured ink.  Actually she makes gorgeous cards using anything … if you haven’t visited Lindsey, you need to, really, your creative brain will thank you for it!   I stamped my blooms (CAS-ual Fridays Pretty Posies, thanks to owner, Michele) using a colour palette I’d saved on Pinterest (I like the unexpected touch of blue), masking as I went to create the corner cluster.  Both parts of the sentiment are from Papertrey and just because the card looked as though it needed them, I scattered some co-ordinating sequins across the white space.  They looked a touch heavy in comparison with the light airiness of the outline stamping, so I lightened them up by adding dots of white Enamel Accents to the centres.   Voilà!

Where will our theme take you?  Will you go with our one layer twist for your celebration card … or do you prefer a layer or two … it’s up to you.  Whichever way you choose, we’d love to see what you create in our gallery.  We’re sponsored this fortnight by CAS-ual Fridays (thanks, Michele!), who are offering a $20 GC to a randomly drawn twister … a great reason to give one layer a go!  As usual, our overall winner, as voted for by the DT, will be invited to guest design with us in a future challenge.  All the details are over at the Time Out blog … along with heaps of delicious inspiration from our fabulous DT … and from our amazingly talented Guest Designer, TaeEun.  You’ll have seen TaeEun’s beautiful work all over blogland … if you haven’t been over to her blog Rainbow in November before, do pay her a visit, you’ll love it … and will come away full of ideas!
