Twofer Card Challenge #31 – Trees

Hello … bonjour!  It’s the 10th of the month … and that means we have a delicious new challenge for you at Twofer!  This month we’re inviting you to enjoy some time in the great outdoors (or maybe indoors!) with …

I chose a solid, stylised tree from Waltzing Mouse Stamps (sadly NLIB) as my common image … it appears solo and draped with stars in the middle of my clean Christmas Card … and on my birthday card, it becomes an autumn copse set along an earthy border, with the leaves just beginning to fall .  Here’s a closer look at each one …

Here, I cut a panel of linen card with an MFT Peek-a-Boo stitched die … and used that as a guide for placing my Christmas tree … done in ombré blues … and made frosty with lots of Spectrum Noir shimmer pen.  The starry garland (WMS) and the sentiment (from Winnie and Walter, also NLIB) were silver heat embossed, I stamped the ground for the tree to grow from (Ellen Hutson) and added falling snow (W&W) after masking the tree.  The panel was foam mounted on a card base that had been inked around the edges … and I finished off with a Nuvo drop in silver glitter at the top of the tree.

Here’s a more seasonal take with the same image …

The Color ThrowdownA one layer cream card with an Ellen Hutson border stamped as the earth.  The trees are just changing from summer to autumn colours (courtesy of some rock and roll/finger-dauber inking) … and are grouped together thanks to a little basic masking.  The tiny leaves (from WMS) have already starting to tumble to the ground … and have been blown right the way along the border by the gentle breeze!  The birthday sentiment is from Hero Arts.

How would you like to join us with your two distinctly different takes on trees … we’d love to see what you create in our gallery!  All the details about how to play along, including rules and FAQs are over at the Twofer blog … together with heaps of brilliant inspiration from the DT and from our fabulous Guest Designers, Helen from Helen’s Craft Haven and Lisa from My Paper Tales … welcome ladies!  Do go over and have a visit with Helen and Lisa … you’re certain to enjoy all the  wonderful design inspiration on display at both their blogs … and you can always say while you’re there too!

Twofer Card Challenge #30 – Sun/Moon

Hello … bonjour!  We have a squeaky clean new challenge for you at Twofer that’s just started … this month we’re asking you to be creative with …

I chose to use a happy, fun, sun image on my cards … one from Simon Says Stamp

My first card features a central, big bold sentiment where the sun takes the place of the dot above the i … a simple way to say a happy hello.  On the birthday card, my design takes up diagonally opposite corners, with the sun shining down onto an oversized corner rainbow.  How about a look at each one individually …

I created the shimmery sunshine goodness in the background by ombré sponging Distress Inks directly onto the card base … and spraying it liberally with shimmer spritz.  The front white panel was cut with a Winnie & Walter (sadly NLIB) bold sentiment … and I stamped the sun (and his chatty looking face) over the dot on the i.  The panel was popped up on craft foam onto the base, the centre of the sun was popped up again over that … and the supplementary sunshine sentiment (from Avery Elle) was slotted snuggly into the word aperture.  I finished off with a coat of Glossy Accents on the centre of the sun.

I don’t have a rainbow die, so cut this one using a curved Simon Says Stamp die and lots of coloured card scraps … added them to a breezy embossed background panel (thanks, Judith!) … and adhered the panel flat to the card base.  The white embossed sentiment is from MFT.  I ombré stamped and trimmed out the sunshine … and popped him up in the swirly sky.  He found himself dazzled by all the colours in the rainbow, so needed his shiny (Glossy Accented) shades … they suit don’t they!

How about joining us with a favourite sun/moon image of your own?  Just use the same stamps, dies and/or stencils for your two distinctly different designs, for two different occasions … we’d love to see you (and them) in our gallery!  Details about how to play, including the rules and FAQs, are over at the Twofer blog … along with heaps of celestial inspiration from the DT!  We’re delighted to have two super talented Guest Designers joining us this month … Mac from The Sweetest of Peas … and Linda from Scrappin, Stampin & Singin … welcome ladies!  Do go over and have a visit with both these super talented crafters … you’ll be so inspired … and you can always say hello while you’re there!

Twofer Card Challenge #26 – Rain/Umbrella

Hello … bonjour!  It’s the 10th of the month … and that means we have a fun and fabulous new challenge for you at Twofer!  This month we’re inviting you to join us with your takes on …

I went with rain … though there is an umbrella on one of my cards …My common image is a stencil from MFT (Mini Staggered Raindrops), a sweet gift from Barb G … thanks, my friend!  It’s used conventionally with these cute critters on the I’m Here For You card and unconventionally on the vibrant, graphic Hugs card.    Here’s a closer look at each one …

My design here is based on a central panel with a wide border all around it.  I coloured the die cut critters and brolly (Lawn Fawn, from my Lake House stash) with coloured pencils and set them aside.  Their background was created using hand cut masks and blended Distress Inks … and was finished with the stencilled raindrops.  The critters were adhered into place … with both of them holding tightly onto that brolly.  You’ll notice that this is no ordinary umbrella … it’s one that when opened, shines bright, warm sunshine on those under it.  So not only are these cuties being sheltered from the rain … they’re also basking in the gentle, comforting glow around them.  The sentiment from Simon provided just the words I was looking for.  I trimmed the finished panel, matted it onto grey card and adhered it to a top folding base card.

My unconventional design uses a panel that fills the central third of my card …

I masked a single line of raindrops on the stencil and went to work with a host of Distress Ink colours, sponging one line at a time and shifting the stencil over to fill in the gaps between the rain drops that you see on my first card.  As each line was completed, the stencil was cleaned off, moved down a quarter of an inch … and I started again with the next colour.  When the panel was finished, it was trimmed and popped up on craft foam over some washi edging, on a side folding landscape card.  The black sentiment (Papertrey … also a gift from Barb G 🙂 ) was triple stacked onto white and adhered over the rainbow panel.

How would you like to join us with some rain/umbrella cards of your own … we’d love to see you (and them) in our gallery!  Whether you choose rain or umbrella or both of them for your two distinctly different cards, please remember to use the same common image(s) for each of your designs.  All the details about how to play along, including rules and FAQs are over at the Twofer blog … together with heaps of delicious and fun inspiration from the DT.  We’re joined this month by two talented Guest Designers … TK from Time 4 Kards and Rosi from Let’s Take Time … welcome ladies!  If you haven’t met these talented card artists yet, do go over and enjoy a wander through their blogs … you’ll have a splendid time finding inspiration in bucket loads!  Even if you are familiar with their work, why not pop along anyway … you can always say hello while you’re there!

A New Challenge At Time Out – #153 – A Wardrobe Item!

Hello … bonjour!  Our new challenge has just started at Time Out … and this fortnight we have a really fun theme for you to play with.  We’d like you to draw inspiration from an item in your wardrobe, past or present … with optional twist of adding embossing (heat or dry) or texture.  I chose to twist … here’s what happened …

The main sentiment is from Poppy Stamps … stacked three times and ombré sponged to mimic the fading out stencilled stripes (MFT).  The supplementary sentiment from WPlus9 was white heat embossed onto a strip that had been sponged to match the stripes.  The florals and leaves are from the same WP9 set … double stamped in various shades of yellows and greens to give them some depth … and adhered onto the card using different heights of foam tape.  I finished off by scattering on some blue pearls and adding Glossy Accents to the flower centres.  A sleeveless summer dress from when I was very young provided the inspiration … it had a white bodice strewn with yellow flowers and a navy and white striped skirt … joined with a navy band at the waist … so pretty.  No actual dress any more … nor a photograph to show you … though I’m sure you get the picture!

         Proud to be sponsored by

How will you interpret our theme … can you find or remember something in your wardrobe to inspire you … and will you use our optional embossing/texture twist?  We’d love to see what you create in our gallery.  This time around, we’re sponsored by Poppy Stamps who are offering a US$20 GC to a randomly drawn player who uses the optional twist.  As usual, our overall winner will be chosen by the DT … and will be invited to guest design with us in a future challenge.  Details are over at Time Out … along with inspiration galore from our brilliant DT … and from our talented Guest Designer, Lise at Lise Mariann.  Why not pop over for a visit with Lise … you can enjoy a wander through all the loveliness on offer at her blog … and say hello while you’re there!

A New Challenge At Time Out – #148 – Home Sweet Home

Hello … bonjour … and thanks so much for all your lovely comments during my absence from blogland!  I should be back with you on a more regular basis from this coming weekend … and am so looking forward to seeing what you’ve got going on 🙂  In the meantime, welcome to our new challenge at Time Out … this fortnight, we have a Christmas Home Sweet Home image to inspire you (a little further down), that’s warm, cosy and wonderfully festive.  Here’s my first take on it (there’s another a little later) …

… and here’s that inviting inspiration picture …

Plaid Christmas Bedroom / Featuring white walls, Red Plaid Bedding from HomeGoods (sponsored) and a full spruce Christmas tree. How to decorate a white and red Christmas bedroom.

For this first card, my attention was drawn to the wreath on the wall … and that fabulous scripty sentiment pillow.  I made my wreath using die cuts from Winnie & Walter‘s In Bloom: Paulina’s Greenery, layered and inter-twined to make it dimensional … and attached it to the base card.  The main sentiment is from Simon, layered on craft foam, covered in shimmer spray and Glossy Accents … and strung across the wreath.  The tiny stamped ‘happy’ is from Winnie & Walter.  I finished the card with berry red gems in different sizes.  Want a closer look at all the sparkle and shine?  Here’s that second card I mentioned earlier, inspired again by the scripty pillow … and by all the white space and texture (the latter will be visible shortly) …

The shimmery die cut sentiment is from MFT, adhered flat to the base card … and that snuggled up little penguin and the stars are from Winnie & Walter.  The penguin is coloured with Zigs, has his Santa hat and scarf all shimmered up … and has a shiny beak and eyes.  He was originally hatless but was a smidge chilly, so with a little masking, I gave him that Santa hat … you can make out the furry trim and bobble a little better below … they’re embossed with Hero Arts White Puff EP to mimic the texture of those white cushions in the inspiration picture.

What draws your eye in our Home Sweet Home photo … those yummy colours, the plaid, the texture, that bold sign … or something else?  Wherever your creative imagination takes you, we’d love to see your card in our gallery!  You could be our next winner and be invited to guest design with us in a future challenge.  All the details are over at the Time Out blog, along with plenty of ideas from the DT to inspire you.  We’re also delighted to welcome our talented Guest Designer, Angie from Cimbacreativefun … you’ll know her super art work already, I’m sure … though do go over and say hello … you’ll find so much to see and enjoy while you’re there!

Twofer Card Challenge #20 – Critters

Hello … bonjour!  Our fun September challenge has just launched at Twofer … this month we’re inviting Critters to play with us …

… my critters are little bitty things … A confetti strewn birthday card and a starry, festive Christmas card … with a gift toting Bitty Bear from MFT as my common image (one was coloured as part of our tutorial at the Lake House with the lovely Kara, colourist extraordinaire … the others were coloured especially for today!).  Here’s a closer look at each card …

Here, my design is a circle within a circle with the sentiment placed underneath.  Bitty Bear is the star of the show, set against the softly sponged yellow centre of a halo of celebratory confetti, stamped with Concord & 9th‘s Bitty Burst Turnabout.  The sentiments are both from Simon Says Stamp.  I added shimmer to the gift … and Glossy Accent-ed it, along with some random parts of the confetti and Bear’s eyes and nose.  Here’s a closer look at the shine …

I used Bear conventionally again on my Christmas card …

… in a design that has him and his friends clambering around a large central die cut sentiment that stretches across the width of the card.  The ho ho ho was made up of the first and last letters of Altenew‘s Mega Hello die.  The Bears climbed aboard, I adhered them and the ho ho ho to a panel of pp (yep, I used pp!) and attached the pp to the card base.  The sentiment and gifts were layered generously with shimmer … and I once again added Glossy Accents to the Bears’ eyes and to the gifts.  They chose the red Rudolph noses themselves … they thought it was appropriate for Christmas!  You can see the detail a little better here …

How about joining us with some critters of your own … we’d love to see you and them in our gallery!  All the details about how to play along, including rules and FAQs are at the Twofer blog … together with heaps of splendid inspiration from the DT.  We’re delighted to have as our Guest Designer, the super talented Nora from A Creative Touch … welcome Nora!  If you haven’t met Nora yet, do go over and enjoy a wander through her blog … you’ll have a splendid time!  Even if you are familiar with her work, why not pop along anyway … you can always say hello while you’re there!

Some Summer Flowers!

Hello … bonjour … and bon dimanche!  It’s not often that I get to be here with something other than DT cards … but as today happens to be one of those days, I’m sharing a duo of summery, floral cards .  Here’s the first …

An almost one layer card … this bouquet of stylised blooms was made using separate stem and flower centre images from Concord & 9th‘s Wildflower set.  The main sentiment is also from C9 (Sophisticated Script) … and the secondary one is from Simon.  I edged the top and bottom of the card with some striped washi … and added a black dot to each of the flower heads.  I was going for a mimosa kind of look (in an abstract sort of a way) … how did I do?

My second card is a bright and sunny one … you may need sunglasses …

This is an image I stamped at the Lake House … think it’s Bev‘s and it might be Studio Calico (though I’m not certain) … isn’t it just charming?  It’s stamped onto an MFT wonky stitched panel, was coloured with alcohol markers, had black pearls added to the flower centres … and was joined by a WPlus9 sentiment surrounded by a few miniscule black pearls.  The finished panel was mounted flat onto a card base that had been edged with Distress Ink.

Sew Happy We’re Friends!

Hello … bonjour!  I’m popping in with an apology today as I’ve not been around in blogland or in emailonia for a few weeks (apart from DT responsibilities that is).  Life outside of our lovely card making world has taken up much more time than usual … and that’s meant that my visiting and commenting has been almost non-existent.  When that’s happened before, I’ve always been able to come by afterwards to see and enjoy what you’ve been doing … and leave a few words on your latest post.  However, this time, I’m sorry to say that it’s not possible for me to do even that … my sanity would be at stake!  I’m pretty sure you understand me having to start from scratch and press the dreaded delete button … as you’ve told me before, most of us have been in such a situation (not easy is it!).  As a small token to show you how much I appreciate you … and to sum up my feelings about being part of this wonderful community … I have a very QACAS card to share …

… and it’s for each of you.  It’s not going to play along anywhere because it’s only for you, my sweet friends and followers.  Don’t you just love C9 Turnabout stamps and ready cut MFT stitched edged panels when you have only a few minutes to apologise!

Hope you’ve had (or are having) a happy weekend … looking forward to getting back to visiting you all starting tomorrow.  If you’re waiting for an email from me, thank you so much for being patient … I’ll get there!  As ever, thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Hugs, Anita 🙂

Twofer Card Challenge #15 – Zoo Animals

Hello … bonjour!  Our fun April challenge has just launched at Twofer … this month we’re inviting Zoo Animals to play with us …

… and I thought bears would be a good choice (nothing to do with what is … or isn’t … living in my stash!) …

A cosy warm birthday card … and a couple of chums saying hello … with that big waving bear from MFT as my common image (stamped and sent for me to play with a while ago by the lovely Cat … thanks my friend!).  Here’s a closer look at each one …

Here, I did a little doodling on Monsieur Bear and turned his scarf into a roll neck sweater … then coloured him with alcohol markers and trimmed him out, cutting off the scarf tails at the same time.  He chose the rainbow cuffs, collar and welt himself … without any cable knit, he felt the creamy Aran colour needed a little extra pizazz … very stylish!  I softly sponged the centre of an MFT wonky stitched panel (Lake House stash) with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink … cut a white embossed MFT sentiment (also from Cat) into a banner … and adhered the banner to the panel with foam tape.  Monsieur Bear was also popped up … his left arm has a double layer of tape under it to add some waving action dimension!  I attached the finished panel to a base card that had been sponged round the edges with Distress Ink.

My twofer is another conventional presentation …

Here, bear appears in his original polar, scarfed guise, accompanied by a little friend … both watercoloured with Zigs and trimmed out.  Their snowy background is a piece of patterned paper from my stash (yep, really, I used PP!), the stacked up die cut is from Winnie & Walter and the supplementary sentiments are from MFT (via Cat).  Little bear is popped up on some very slender foam dots while big bear is on chunkier ones to emphasise the sense of depth and distance between them.

How would you like to join us in the gallery at Twofer this month … we’d love to see which zoo animal(s) you choose as your common image.  You can find out everything you need to know in the rules and FAQs over at the Twofer blog.  It’s worth the trip … there are plenty of wonderfully inspiring ideas from our brilliant DT … and from our talented Guest Designer, Susan from Card Maker’s Garret.  Do go and have a visit with Susan … you’ll find so much deliciousness to enjoy!

Twofer Card Challenge #14 – Balloons

Hello … bonjour!  We’ve rattled round so quickly into March … and today we have another Twofer challenge for you … this month we’re playing with …

… and here’s how my imagination floated off …

A happy hello card and a happy birthday card, both featuring a richly plump, round balloon image from Winnie & Walter … let’s take a closer look at each one …

I rock and roll stamped/masked the Winnie & Walter balloons and bows onto an A2 card panel, added the fun sentiment (from Essentials by Ellen) and drew in the drifting-in-the-breeze strings.  The balloons were layered with Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle and I added some colour and shimmer to the three o’s in the sentiment with a tiny dot from Simon Says Stamp.  The liquid sparkle took out some of the shaded dimensional effect of the rock and roll stamping … though it’s there if you look closely … and those balloons are deliciously shimmery!   The lovely (and uber talented) Therese at Lost In Paper made a set of splendid ‘over the top‘ designs recently where an element of each card stood out above it’s top fold … and it struck me that my balloon bouquet was made for such a technique (thanks for the inspiration, Therese!).  So … I trimmed out the finished balloon panel and adhered it to a base card cut especially to size … and the card still fits into a standard size envelope … perfect!

My twofer design is rather more unconventional …

… I turned my balloon image into pistacchio ice cream!  The sugar cone was created on an MFT Wonky Stitched panel (from my Lake House stash), using masking and a single line stamp from Winnie & Walter … and it was Copic coloured and shaded (thanks, Kara!).  After masking the top edge of the cone, I scooped the balloon into it and added some alcohol marker shading around the ice cream edges to give it a little dimension.  The image was overstamped with a sentiment from MFT … and real sprinkles (a freebie from our local supermarket in just the perfect colours!) finished it off … yum!  I sponged the edges of a base card to match the ice cream and popped the stitched panel up onto it on craft foam.

How about playing along with some of your own balloon images … we’d love to see your cards in our gallery!  You can find out everything you need to know in the rules and FAQs over at the Twofer blog.  There’s a whole heap of scrumptious inspiration to enjoy while you’re there too … from our talented Guest Designers, Julie from Handcrafted By Jules and Lucy from Little Scraps Of Lucy …….  and from our brilliant DT.  BTW, do go over for a visit with both Julie and Lucy … you won’t want to miss all the loveliness they have on offer!

Winnie & Walter’s Leading Lady Challenge #4 – Altering Stamped Images With Masking

You may know we’ve had internet/phone issues for a while … heaps upon heaps of intermittent outages culminating in almost a week with no access at all … it’s been just a smidge wearing!   Orange (our service providers) lent us an Airbox on Thursday afternoon to get us online again till it’s all fixed … and I’ve been having fun and being inspired since, catching up with everyone.  So for now,  I’m around and about … if it goes quiet again, you’ll know there’s a technician up a telephone pole somewhere in rural France!  As ever, thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita 🙂
